Only tangential to the GT350 but I hope somebody has some insight.

I bought my car in Florida, and I live in Connecticut. When I went to pick up the car, the dealership said they would take care of filing the paperwork with the CT DMV, which they do all the time as they sell plenty of cars to snowbirds from the northern states, and in the meantime I could drive off with a 30 day temp FL plate. Then when the CT plates arrived, they'd mail them to me.

The paperwork with the DMV is handled by some third party company that they use all the time. My paper plates expire this sunday. On Monday I called the dealer to ask if there was any update regarding the CT plates. The said they'd look into it. Then I called the CT DMV and asked them if the VIN shows up on their database, and they said it doesn't. Then I spoke with the dealer again who said looks like the title company have been sitting on my paperwork but they'll get right on it, and meanwhile they'll mail me another 30 day florida temp tag.

Has anyone got any experiences with these external third party title / registration companies, and are they usually quite reliable or should I be worried that they'll leave a major mess for me to sort out (including a possible sales tax double counting)?

This has happened to me before. I received the plates a few days after getting the second 30 day temp tag. I wouldn't be concerned as long as what you are using isn't expired.

Maybe the 3rd party is still Detoxing from the holidays? ;)

I know I ran into delays with Ca DMV... the different offices DO NOT talk to each other.

I'm fearing this exact thing happening with me. I'm 15 days in and nothing shows as registered with the AZ MVD, but my car came from FL as well and there's some third-party handling the title and registration. I guess I'll give them another 10 days before telling my dealer to send another temp tag?

Another advantage for buying local, my GT350 was delivered with my new plates. I would hope so, the dealer had 5 months to plan and 6 weeks with the VIN to have that taken care of.

I am in the same boat, and extremely worried about this process. Purchased in MI, live in VA. Really feeling lost in limbo right now as my paperwork floats somewhere with the title transfer company. My tag expires in a few days, and the last time I asked, my dealer in MI said it would not be possible to get another tag.

I live in CT and got my car in Vermont. Drove it home with the 30 day plate. DMV required a VIN verification at an emissions station with the car as part of the paper work required. The dealership provided the Ford certificate of origin also required by DMV

I was able to get extended tags from the California DMV, car came from Nebraska, but I did have to talk with the DMV Supervisor/Manager. You guys might have the same luck?

That's a big line of BS. Really it's their problem not yours you paid for a service they agreed to provide. Time to raise a little hell IMO. It's no skin off their ass a 30 day tag is 5-10 bucks. I'd stay on them and get another tag if that's what I wanted. I bought my 2012 GT500 from Michigan and live in Ohio the exact same thing happened and they over nite express delivered me a new tag and a week later I had a permanent plate. Get aggressive with them and make them do what you paid them to do. That's how I would handle it. Dealers for the most part are scummy pieces of crap. The only people I like less is the dentist.
