I pretty much daily my GT. Lately temps have been getting below recommended temperatures for MPS4S as well as pretty much every other summer tire. Unfortunately two sets of tires is not realistic (only gets below 40°F less than 10% of the year).

Are there any tires out there that can tolerate the cold (<40°F) and have somewhat good handling? Need wet grip because it does rain somewhat often. Snow is very rare and usually closes roads anyways so they don't need to have good snow grip.

Wider, the better.

yup. i put Michelin AS/3 on my front last year but will put PS4S back on in a few weeks for summer and keep the AS/3 for fall/winter. if AS/4 is an option i can only assume it's better than myAS/3 but either should fit your needs of being used under 40 degrees while also offering good performance. you're probably not going to get the same performance as a summer only tire but i would think a high performance all season is about the next best.

Depending on your budget, the range of pricing is from nearly $400/tire to under $150 Nankang. In my own experience, I have used a cheaper UHP all season for those days I wanted to drive in the winter on a clear day. I've had the Michelin A/S 3+ and the Nankang NS-25 UHP all seasons. The Nankangs were excellent, maybe quieter than the Michelins. Less sticky, but balanced and were fine in rain.
Nankang tires are made in Taiwan, not China (at least mine were). It is a very old company and you can get them from Discount Tire.

The Goodyear Eagle Exhilarate did well in this test.

I have the Goodyear Exhilarates and I would say they are comparable to Pilot Sport AS4's. Would recommend. Made in USA as well.

I drive my MP4S's down into the TEENs in temperatures and very light snow for almost 3 years now. Just don't drive like an ass or in ice conditions and you will be just fine

Must be an old pic. Michelin doesn't show 325 width in any diameter
It's from this past fall, but it looks like Michelin is phasing out the 3 in favor of the 4. However just like the 3, the 4 only comes in 325/30/19 size in their run flat (ZP) version.

+1 on the AS/3. Had them on an SN95 Mustang and it was VERY surprising how well they worked. I - unintentionally - had the car out in slushy snow and while it was hairy, it was manageable. Beyond that I was very impressed with the handling, noise level and rain performance of the AS/3. Amazing the tires that Michelin is producing these days.

This is a far cry from Goodyear Gatorbacks and Eagle GS-Cs.... :)

Actually for rain or snow a narrower tire is preferable for traction. So you don't need a wide set for the cold temps, but totally agree wider is better when warm, dry weather returns.
