I've spent a while browsing the forums for this info but I can't seem to find something that would answer exactly my situation so I apologize if I missed something.

I own a 19 GT auto PP1. I want to be as planted and stable as possible when accelerating and cornering but I will not be tracking this is just spirited street driving.

I'm thinking a squared setup with 305s would suffice but would this require new wheels as well? Would squared somehow compromise my straight line acceleration? Do the pp1 wheels support 305 or do they peak at 295?

Any advice? I just want to have fun without losing control and I'm starting with a good tire setup before getting into suspension.

Thanks!

  • 19 x 9.0-inch front.
  • 19 x 9.5-inch rear.
Are these your current wheel rim specs?

I felt the links above were good for: 1) ensuring the width of the replacement tire is suitable for the rim to be used and , 2) ensuring the diameter of the replacement tire is no soo far off it could cause problems.

If you were not already aware, when eyeing a replacement rim, you'll also need to study and account for the rims' offset.

IMO, square 305 19s would be great. That's what was on the PP2 cars.

You might consider shopping around for a take-off set of PP2 wheels, that would be a smart solution.

Are these your current wheel rim specs? If so, I felt the links above were good for studying two factors: 1) ensuring the width of the replacement tire is suitable for the rim to be used and , 2) ensuring the diameter of the replacement tire is no soo far off it could cause problems.

If you don't already know, if eyeing a replacement rim, you'll also need to study or account for the rims' offset, which will affect how close or far it rests from the suspension.

FWIW, I'll be using a square setup. Like you, I do not have specific road-going requirements, other than to be as planted as possible.
Yes those are my stock pp1 tires. What setup will you be using?

Good idea I forgot about those.

While the factory rims and tires which come with the car I'll receive will be fun during peak Summer months or track time, they won't be very realistic for "regular" street driving, especially when it gets cold.

I found a second set of rims from LMR which I think compliment the car and paired those with 285/35/19 all-season Michelins. Square is simple.

The PP2 rim/tire setup mentioned by @KingKona reads great. The sizing is already figured out, the rims will look sweet and there are either factory PP2 rims (new or used) and PP2 clones in the wild.
