Recently took a screw in one of my original 5 year old, 4800 mile PSS front tires, screw is in the shoulder so not repairable. I hate to replace all 4 tires because of this but that looks like the road I'm going down.

Decided to stick with PSS, considering these options using original non-R wheels: go 305/35/19 square, or 295/35/19 in front. The issue with going 295 front is the only ones I could find have a 104Y load index, the OE 100Y rating tires are apparently still on back order.

I like the idea of going square and found a set of 4, 305/35/19's for a good price at Discount Tire. So my question is: Are there any negatives either way about going square vs. the 295 104Y in front? Don't know how the higher 295-104Y load index will affect handling compared to the OE 100Y.

Thanks!

It sounds like you don't track/race/autox the car. If that is the case, I would just go with the 295s. They will do everything you need and more on the street, and as they age, they just get harder, which means less grip, but they do last a long time. The slightly stiffer rating isn't a huge deal.

Since you can't rotate the tires from front to rear, there really is no reason to have the same size tires on both ends, especially if it is just a road/spirited driving/go for a Sunday ride car.

With that low mileage, you could consider buying two new tires for the front axle.

Thanks for the replies and comments. I have not tracked the car yet but still hope to. I did think about only getting 2 new fronts but since they were the OE tires and 5.5 years old I would be getting new ones in ~1 year anyway so just decided to get all 4 now.

In the end decided to go 305 square. Turned out the 295's were actually not in stock and since I was thinking of going square anyway decided to pull the trigger. Even if the 295's had been available, the 305's were cheaper. Went for a ~50 mile drive today and so far very pleased with the results. I was a little concerned the 305's up front would increase tramlining but it actually feels like less!
