Hey guys,

So as a part of my OCD, after each drive whether short or far, i always inspect my whole car quickly (I know, i know).

Anyways, after a longer drive today, a few of my rims have some noticeable scratches / scuffs that don’t come off with my nail.

I know for a fact one of the rims may have a tiny tiny hairline scratch, but the other rims have some sort of debris, and are a little bigger.

These bug me to hell because of my OCD. I’m hoping with a nice power wash tomorrow or solves the problem, but if they are actual scratches, what should I do to remove them? I’ll get some pictures going tomorrow if they don’t come off after a power wash.

(P.S. These are steel rims, and have been ceramic coated about a month ago)

Hi Jay. First off your wheels are flow formed aluminum, not steel. Since they are ceramic coated any surface debris will come off. If they are actual scratches leave them alone. Any attempt to remove them will damage your coating.

As far as preventing these scratches, that’s simple. Don’t drive your car. Roads have crap on them. It is inevitable that your wheels will pick up some of this crap and possibly scratch them. I totally understand you OCD, but if you drive your car stuff will happen.

EDIT: Easy on the pressure washer. Too hard and it could damage the coating. A gentle wash will work just as well.

I'm saddened to see that a power washer seems to be the answer to so many concerns.

No, OP, don't friggin' power wash your wheels. Good way to remove the finish. If you don't believe me, point your power washer at the concrete and blast away, real close.

Wash them by hand.

No, sir. The power washer isn’t above 1900 PSI. You think i’m actually blasting the car like a moron? It’s a paint friendly washer, and been doing it for months, and it’s been doing well. Not to mention my car is ceramic coated and so are the wheels.

Good day.

Yeah because using a high psi pressure washer inches from your vehicle's paint is recommended practice... using a relatively low (like 1600 psi) pressure washer and NOT holding it point blank won't hurt anything. Hand washing can also cause scratches to form.

Your example is like saying "I'm saddened to see people recommend people eat to survive. Have you ever seen someone shove a full steak down their throat causing them to choke and die? Just drink water to survive."
