HMMM seems like most guys are getting that now, I might have to ask for the restrictor less tune :-)

I was monitoring airflow and temps today (with restrictor) and at IDLE I'm at 20 parts air at WOT I range between 11 and 13 and at normal cruise (6th gear, 60 MPH) I am steady between 14-15 parts. Air temps range base on the time of day and sun factor. It more the sun beats on the hood the hoter the engine bay is. I was into the low 80's this morning (ambient temp was 76) and as high as 103 at a light. This is using the gauges in the vehicle. I wonder just how well the top of the air box seals to the hood.
I'm also curious as to the seal against the hood, however I'm not sure what kind of temps the stock intake had at a stop in traffic. Anyone with the stock intake care to chime in on their inlet temp at a stop after driving around?

On a 5 hour road-trip, I had a temperature range of 3-4 degrees F with my stock set-up regarding inlet vs ambient temperature.

One quick thought steeda, I think you forgot to put a drain hole on the bottom of the intake box for when water get in, JLT has one, my ford racing cai on my bullitt had 2 if I remember correctly. I just got my intake today didn't have time to put it on but for sure tomorrow it's going on, but I think I'm going to drill a hole or 2 just in case.

Think that's an excellent idea...plan on modifying my box as soon as I get back

I noticed the lack of drains too, but then I was thinking about it and isn't the cold air pipe downhill from the airbox? Any accumulated water would just drain out that way.

Wait, we have to modify the box ourselves?

So after driving around in the hot Florida sun, I got home and decided to pop my hood and check to make sure I installed everything correctly as I still think my air inlet temps seem awfully high given everyone else is running less than 10° above ambient. Everything seems to be installed correctly however I did notice that while the space within the airbox seems considerably cooler than elsewhere in the engine bay, the aluminum connection seemed extremely hot. Could this possibly be the reason why my temps at a standstill are climbing so high?

Could be, I'm sure the temps are comming from the MAF vice the air box.

It's normal for IAT to climb at a standstill with both the production intake and an aftermarket CAI.

If you checked it with the factory box, the same scenario would occur.

At idle you aren't flowing much air, so it will pick up heat as it goes through the intake piping. Once you are on throttle, the air velocity will increase to a point where it won't have time to pick up much heat, and will be influenced mostly by the temp of the incoming air.

So, once you get on the gas the temp should drop.

At this point I don't think the temperature rise at idle is anything to worry about.

Thanks for the responses guys, I wasn't sure as I never monitored temps with the stock intake, but figured better safe than sorry. One other question though, the whistle when about 1/4 throttle is normal right? I find it only occurs when I'm on the throttle a certain amount, any less or any more and it disappears.

Folks I would look into putting a couple of holes in the bottom of your intake. I washed her this morning and when I opened the hood I had some standing water in there. I put 2 holes I. The areas where the standing water was to drain it out.

That's interesting Brian. I suppose if water is collecting, popping a couple of holes to let it drain is a good idea. Kinda surprised it didn't come with drain holes.

I'm very much considering the Steeda CAI. Right now, I'm running Ford Racing's touring cat backs and a Bama 93 octane tune. I would hope that adding the CAI and updating my tune to match would add at least a little HP and torgue.

Other than the standing water issue, are you pleased with Steeda's CAI?
