I’ve been thinking about the intercooler pump, dual fans, and dual hat fuel pump, and wondered what effect this has on the battery and charging system. Has anyone looked into that? I’m thinking about ditching the triple pass dual fan and going with a Whipple oversized HE. Has anyone done similar on a VMP/Roush setup?

I ran the triple pass on my 14 GT. Great unit. Never had any issues. However I did pull the fuses everytime I reflashed my tune at he track just to be safe. The surface area of that unit is larger than the unit that Whipple sells however the Whipple unit is thicker. You could just eliminate the fans on your unit and run like that for a while and see how it works. Keep in mind that you can't just pull the fuses. On of them also feeds the recirc pump. Just disconnect the fans. VMP offers that same HE with the 2650 standard without the fans. However when I called to see if I could purchase it the same way they told me it was not available as a separate unit without the fans.

VMP has also released a recirc pump for $239 that is suppose to flow more than the GT500 (13/14) pump that sells for almost $400. That pump with your triple pass with the fans removed would likely do as well if not better than the extra large WHipple HE.

If you do choose to go with the HE from whipple, let me know in a PM if you want to sell the VMP unit. If its in prime condition I would be interested but will need to come with all mounting hardware and wiring.

AS for current, I believe VMP told me the fans pull approx 12 amps each and the and the pump pulls another 6 amps I believe (assuming it is the Bosch pump). The system on my 14 premium kept up with everything.

Interesting thought. I have one with fans and one without fans (same HE). I just bought the upgraded IC pump, so I will do some testing without the fans when I get it all back together. Hopefully, my driveshaft will arrive in the next couple of weeks, so I can finish up the TR6060 swap. I assumed the whipple had more surface area. When you say the VMP has more surface area, are you comparing that the the oversized Whipple or the standard one?

Yes. Pretty certain that the Whipple is not as wide or tall as the triple pass but sure thicker. Plus it appears to only be a two pass unit. I could be wrong but seeing them both installed in pictures it appears that the VMP is wider though 1" thinner. VMP measurements also are based on the cooling area and do not include the tanks according to their documentation. What I was suggesting and I guess I never got around to it, is that for the cost of the $239 pump you could remove the fans and see if the IAT temps are as low or lower which would be cheaper than $550 plus the $100 dollar mounting kit the Whipple HE costs. I know if you are installing the Whipple unit on a non Whipple you also need the mounting kit and they quoted me $100 for that over the cost of the HE. Remember also that the fans are only to help move air at slower speeds as it was explained to me.

If I had a triple pass on this 17 I would add the upgraded pump first. Then I would disconnect the fans after datalogging with fans on and see how that pans out. If I saw the results I wanted, I would then decide if I want to tear the front end off to remove the fans and anything else on the HE restricting air flow and make a final test. If however I saw negative results with the fans disabled I would then weigh in on whether or not I wish to swap to the bigger HE unit Whipple offers. Either way the upgraded pump would be a benefit to the final outcome. In the end you may find you achieved what you sought to (which is eliminate the fans) and maintained the same IAT control or better for as little as $239 bucks vice $650.

I believe that is the way to go as well. I’ll datalog as I’m setup currently, add the new IC pump and datalog, disconnect fans and datalog, and then draw a conclusion hopefully. Thanks.

You also actually have a VMP triple pass HE without the fans? Let me know if you want to sell it. I tried to obtain one w/o fans from VMP and they told me they only sold it that way with the SC kit. PM a price if I understand you correctly. I may be interested in it. My current setup just has that dinky Roush HE they push off in their kit. I would have gone Whipple or VMP if the 17 I have didn't already have the phase two Roush kit on it from the previous owner. I sure miss that triple pass.

I just ordered a Lund retune (93 octane) for my setup tonight and found a solo exhaust setup locally almost new (1000 miles on it) for $400. The previous owner was a Roush nut. I am not. So I am 'de-roushing' the car as much as possible so it will run and sound optimal.

I do have a non fanned unit. It had fans at one point, but they were stripped off. I have a cosmetic issue with the one on my car, so when I saw this one for sale I snapped it up. I just have not got around to putting it on, and that’s what got me thinking about a nonfanned unit. I only want to do it once. I’ll let you know what I come up with. I also have that 60mm twin I just pulled off. Trying to decide what to do with it.
