4 cyl, v6...don't care. Ford needs DI and bumped compression in the Coyote and 10 speed auto in '17.

450+ hp and upper 20s/maybe 30 mpg highway would be a nice reaction to the new Camaro. I don't think some of you realise how much quicker the Camaro is going to be assuming same approx weight as the Mustang w/ 'only' 20 more hp...and deeper trans gearing. I have a feeling its mpgs might surprise us as well.
I care about the small motors. Volume sellers. And I'd like to continue to stomp on all the bargain performers in my EB!

I do, however, worry that you are correct with regards to the V8s. I don't think 30mpg. But high 20s is likely (say, 27-28 or so). And if the cars do wind up weighing about the same, that 20HP will be a problem for GT owners. I was going to drive around this EB for two years or so, then upgrade to a used 15/16 GT when they start hitting the market.

Now I might have to wait and buy a new '17, to see if Ford reacts to this.

New Camaro will also have a significant torque advantage and 2 extra gears.

Agreed on the torque. On the extra gears, though, that's only on the Automatic. Manual is a 6 speed. I bought my EB in automatic but... next buy will be manual. I know the autos are faster but I miss the manual. I still wouldn't touch a Camaro. GM let me down too many times to go back to them. And the Camaro exterior is okay, but the interior looks like utter garbage. Gaudy and blingy. Muuuuuuch prefer the Mustang interior which is subtle, refined and well-designed.

I hope Ford bumps the '17 GTs up in power. But even if they don't, I'll still go Mustang GT and just rely on bolt-ons to even the odds.

The other option for Ford is to make that 5.2L Voodoo motor an option for the '17 GT (maybe a slightly detuned version to keep the Shelby exclusive), then drop the price a bit on the 5.0 variant. I doubt they'll do it, but that'd handle the problem just fine.

I'm still impressed with Ford overall. They are doing so much with *far* less displacement. They'll need to respond, naturally, but folks shouldn't worry themselves too much over it. I like my Mustang, and the Camaro isn't going to change that.

First off new Camaro doesn't look half as nice as the new mustang. 2nd Chevy V6 is a piece of garbage. So glad I traded my Camaro in. Car was in twice for engine work and only had 27k on it. Coworker has one also and had a major engine problem at 44k.

I agree with the above easier to tune the ecoboost plus extra torque is more useful for me driving city driving then higher HP. Interior is leap years nicer on the Mustang also.

Well remember also the Camaro auto's are going to be running 2.77 gearing...while our base GT autos are running 3.15s so they are going to have better MPG off the bat.

Lol. All these people, "This is what Ford MUST DO". Losing sight of the fact that 435hp out of a stock car is nuts. More power doesn't always win the day. And what will the Camaro cost compared to the Mustang? Losing weight isn't cheap. Will be very interested to see what the price points are for comparable cars, and not from GM Trend magazine either. GM classically has their cars show up with gumball tires on them to any comparison tests.

Motortrend has really been showing its bias lately. The stats they "tested" on the Mustang were utter garbage. I'm just a regular guy with a base model, and I blow away their test results? It makes no sense unless they are deliberately slanting in favor of GM.

Ya saw the motor trend numbers and was wondering who's grandma they had drive the mustang in their tests. Utter garbage for sure.

You mean the magazine that said it's not a Mustang if it doesn't have round headlights?

It's not quite that easy, but yes, it will get better mpgs. Also w/ the deeper gears avail in the 8 speed, along w/ more torque, the GT unfortunately will not be the leader anywhere in straight line speed contests. In the past we could at least get the jump to 60 or so...

Ford could drop in that 10 speed auto they've been dickering around with for awhile into the '17s. Give the 5.0 a bump in power or offer a detuned 5.2 option. Problem solved. I kind of hope they do, so when I upgrade to a V8, I'm getting the most for my money.
