Up front, I have already contacted Zach about a possible MY2022 if they make it in Rapid Red. This conversation happened on Saturday in Connecticut as I visited 3 local dealerships just to see if any have hit the ground. All 3 were horrible but this was the absolute worst.

Just needed to share this as this to me is getting really ridiculous…..at least in my experience.

Me: Hi, I wanted to ask about the Mach 1.

Salesperson: The Mach “E”??

Me: No, the Mach “1”.

Salesperson: The Mach “E”??

Me: No, The Mach 1 “MUSTANG”

Salesperson: The Mach “E” Mustang??

Me: SIGH…No, NOT the Mach “E” SUV. The MACH “1” “MUSTANG”

Salesperson: Oh, well they are not making them yet so we do not have any information on them yet.

Me: SIGH….Very politely…Well, they are making them and some people have them in their garage’s right now.

Salesperson: (Puzzled Look) Hmmmm…ok, let me ask my manager…

5-10 Minutes later…..

Salesperson: My manager said we will get 3 allocations this year and 1 of them has already been spoken for. I hear they are really great. I know a person who has one and they love taking it to the mountains. (She is referencing the Mach “E” obviously)

Me: SIGH….REALLY? Mind if I ask you one more question?

Salesperson: Sure….

Me: Do you know anything about the upcoming Mach 1 Mustang?

Salesperson: Oh yeah, the mustangs are really great. I do a lot of my research on YouTube. I can’t wait to see one of those.

Yeah don’t take a few minutes and learn about the products your employer sells, should be fired immediately. Zach is the polar opposite, and refreshing to correspond with as I’m sure you’ve found out.

Luckily the fleet manager knew about the Mach 1 and ordered for me....the sales manager didn't even know anything about it.

Mach E right?!? I heard that a lot too. It’s a shame when the customers know so much more the cars they represent.

I had the same exact experience at a Socal dealer about 3 weeks ago, you could have copy and pasted the conversation. Ford really put themselves in this position with their naming conventions.

I Walked out, was getting no where, they had no clue what I was talking about even after showing a picture on my phone.

Someone on this forum said it best, "Don't forget, the sales guy you are talking to was literally selling washing machines last month"

Exactly. To me the biggest shame in all of this and I really hope someone from Ford is reading this thread is that many of the salespeople simply do not know the product. If I am walking into a dealership looking to spend 55K-60K, at the very least I expect to talk to someone that can hold an intelligent conversation about a product they are selling.

No offense to anyone but I am not walking into BestBuy to buy a CD player that I can return a week later. This is my hard earned money for what to me is a pretty pricey vehicle that I plan to keep a long time. And any dealership that can't do that will one, never get my business and two, I will tell anyone I can to not go to that specific dealership. Granted I am only person but the Internet can be very powerful in whether a dealer can do very well (Like Zach from Granger) or not do very well like the 3 dealers I just visited. Just like with the late configurator and brochure....get it together Ford, Seriously. Train your people properly and get your materials out in a timely manner. You are not selling cookies here. You should be ashamed. If I didn't like certain things about the Camaro that are deal breakers to me I would have already had one in my garage although I have to admit that the new Wild Cherry color on the Camaro is stunning. Too bad, in my opinion, that someone beat that front end with an ugly stick....twice. But Kudos to them for at least offering the consumer a beautiful red unlike the Mach 1...Ahem, Rapid Red. No offense to the Race Red fans!

And Ford, feel free to make this post part of your next big meeting. I love Mustang. Treat not only myself but everyone else here the way we should be treated. We all love Mustang for a reason. Please start taking your job and your customers more seriously.

Nice rant but dealerships aren't Ford. I'd say asking a dealership salesman anything is like going to Lowe's/Home Depot and asking one of the unload kids for advice on your kitchen renovation. I actually agree with your sentiment but until dealerships are a bit less removed from the car manufacturer, things will never change.

When I did sales, briefly, the old mantra was that "it's easier to train someone to use the computer than to be good with people." So any fart who could sweet talk an interview was picked over someone who displayed any intelligence. Then they were never trained...

I agree with this but to me I would think Ford would monitor this better because these dealerships are the Face of the company. When you were in sales you represented the company you were working for. In your example of Lowe's/Home Depot many people will most likely have a better experience more often in one chain or the other although who knows. But it's a pretty safe bet that many people would say something like I go to Lowe's because the people at Home Depot are just idiots and don't know anything and vice versa.

The salespeople in the dealerships are the face of Ford and in my opinion a lot of the dealerships are making Ford look bad. Many of us here are very informed on the car we want but many people who walk through the door are not. And if the salespeople do not know what they are talking about how can they even begin to help a customer make a good decision. And as you know, this is one of the main reasons people hate going to a dealership. Besides of course, the regular reasons such as getting ripped off, taken advantage of.....etc. Again, not Ford's fault directly but all of the dealerships are making the company look bad and that can't be good for business. This is where Ford should step up and improve things because at the end of the day it's their name and their brand on the line.

I like when calling around to ask about a manual Escort ZX2 in 2000, I found TWO Ford dealers that kept telling me Chevy makes those and I'm calling the wrong dealer.

I'm sure many sales guys were pissed at me blatantly asking "How do you have a job but not know your product? When did Chevy start making the Escort?" In one case it was while standing in the middle of his sales floor.

The car had been out for almost 3 years at that point and somehow dealers had NO idea what they were. If you cant be aware of you upcoming and current products you should NOT be working there. I understand maybe SPECIALIZING in F-series or Mustang, or Small cars, and not being familiar with all the options of the others. But Ford has like maybe 6 vehicles at that time? How do you not even know their names?

I was recently shopping for an Ecboost for my son. We walked into a dealer and asked the salesman about leasing an Ecoboost. He said the banks won't lease Mustangs, I told him that most banks won't lease GT mustangs but will lease the Ecoboost. Looking puzzled he said lets go to my desk and I'll look into it. On the way to his desk we past a GT350. I said very nice, he replied you like that...it has 625 horsepower. I told him no, it has 526 horse power. I got to his desk, sat down and told him I wanted to lease a base Ecoboost with a manual transmission. He told me that the Ecoboost doesn't come with a manual transmission. That's when I got up and left.

Exactly. Point made. Twice.
