You know that buying a Focus now & getting a GT350 in 2-3 yrs would be significantly more expensive than just getting a GT PP now..
So if $ is your real concern the only way to really save is to buy the Focus and completely forget about getting any Mustang.

Hey guys, so I currently have a 300A with PP and Recaro's on order. I've been doing a lot of thinking, which may be my downfall, and I'm thinking of getting a different car. I'm 20 years old and plan on putting a big down payment and can afford payments, insurance, and gas. However, I'm not really sure if it's worth spending a majority of my monthly pay and tying myself down so early. So, I'm looking at a Focus ST. I found one within my area and to me, it seems like the logical thing to do. The car will still be fun, much better on gas, insurance, and the monthly payment as well. Plus, I have my eyes set on the new GT350 (or whatever it's going to be) down the line. So, what do you all think??
That car will likely be upwards of $50,000. If you want to look at the pure financial aspect of that, it might be good to consider how long you will wait, how much more you would save up to go toward the purchase of that, and where you might think you will be with your revenue stream in x number of years from now.

When buying passionate cars, it's hard to put a price on the passion part because that's partly for what you are paying.

Good luck in your decision!

I can't argue with being prudent. But I don't necessarily agree getting an ST is prudent. It's still a new car and will still depreciate very heavily. You might consider a low-mileage 11 or 12 GT for a couple of years, if the real goal is a 17 GT350. That will cost you much less to buy and resell in two years, and will still be 90% of an S550 GT, including the sound of a Coyote V8!

My advice- I would try to find a used 2011 GT or better yet the V6. You can find some greats deals on them, have fun, and improve your skills w/o breaking the bank.

Depending on your budget how about a ecoboost? Or a used ST if you really want to save money?

I have a Fiesta ST and love it. the ST cars are fun and economical. I also have a Boss 302LS. Are the the same? No. But one is a heck of a lot cheaper to drive and just as fun. I drive them both on the track and have a blast. Get what you can afford and enjoy it.

Bro, it comes down to what you want...me? I ENJOY paying 500 a month for my fully loaded GT. What else would I do with it? nothing but save it for a rainy day... (which I still have enough money to do that too). If you really cant afford it...I would go with the ecoboost.

but I just dont like the focus STs really. why not go for a used something or another. You have been around for as long as me on the forum and have showed much interest in the car. If you back out I think it would be a mistake. who knows, you might get a raise at the first of the year.

I cannot stand spending money. Cars are my vice and an exception, but I still hate taking on big payments, even if it's financially safe.

I REALLY appreciate the feedback guys. I think I'm just over-thinking this whole thing. I want to be conservative one second and the next I want the car I've invested all this time in waiting and saving for. I'm going to stick to the route I've planned and I'm going to enjoy the hell out of my S550. In the end, I really won't be saving THAT much money to choose the ST over it. I am going to not think about it anymore, lol..

Well I mean, of course i would choose a 200 dollar payment over a 500 dollar payment. but i mean, cars are my exception too. It will put a huge smile on my face so I'll be good.

Get a base V6! Should be fun to drive too. Looks like it's almost the same price as the Focus ST. Definitely test drive both.

How much money are you really saving per month?
A good question. In my research with a 5 yr GT note vs a 4 yr FoST note, the difference is about 200 a month between insurance gas and the loan. Significant, but not going to break you. The cost of mods, however....

I'll tell you my experience, I had a 2012 GT with the Brembo Package and the MT82 with a tune and Roush AB mufflers. I'm 25 and I thought that I was going to be smart and save money by selling the car and buying a Civic Si as my daily driver and work on paying things off. So I bought a 2008 Si sedan and miss the Mustang each and every day. I want the S550, but now we're saving for a house, and I'm debating starting my Master's program in the next couple years, so it looks like I won't be getting a Mustang ANY time soon -- And it KILLS me.. I miss the low-end torque and that glorious V8 sound...

I think the EB is a happy medium...Mustang looks and dynamics with the finances of an ST. If you get the PP itll still do about 150. Save 8 grand
