There are several threads about how to do it, very easy but could be messy depending how you do it.
One method is to take off the pan under the front of the car, a whole lot of clips and bolts, then you drain the radiator from the petcock on the right side of the radiator. I did it like this once and it was draining fine until I opened the cap to the overflow bottle then it came streaming out so fast it missed my bucket and I lost about a QT of fluid.
The next time I just used a hose clamp (looks like vise grips that have flat teeth then squeeze the hose coming from the bottom of the radiator, I used an extra large ziplock bag that I got from Ace Hardware to catch any fluid coming out of the connection where the TStat is located. You loosen the two 8mm bolts on the hosing just below and to the right of the throttle body that has the bottom hose connected to it. The thermostat is inside of that hosing pull it out along with the gasket. If you have the 170 you wont need the gasket.
Hope that helps.
That doesn't sound easy. I thought I just have to remove the old one and replace it with the new one, what fluid are you talking about?Easiest way to install the theromstat is to use a hose clamp. I didn't have to remove the pan or lift my car. Took 30 mins and barely lost any fluid.
I will post pics later.
I'm probably not going to do the installation myself, but I'd like to know just in case the installer has no idea.
