You done did it now, Bob. 😂
I have a feeling you will have a build thread in the future installing this interior in your Mach 1.

JK.... I love the S550 interior. LOL

Nah. I actually prefer the analog gauges of my GT. If the M1 had that option, I would have opted for it. The S650 interior just looks cheesy.

While the Mustang II is maligned by the masses, it was a huge sales hit for Ford. And without the Mustang II (which came in at the right time when gas prices and MPG were a problem) we would not have the Mustang still today. It was the right car at the right time, and I believe was the second highest seller in generation, after the first generation.

WHAT!! I guess each to his own, the digital gauges on the Mach 1 are a work of art.

say what you want, but you and I both would be rolling in a black and gold TA back then.

it wasn’t gearheads buying the II. Gearheads were buying used 60’s muscle, new Camaros and TA’s . I have heard all the sales figures before…all the numbers in the world won’t change a thing. They suck. . Flat out.. kept the name going and that was about it. I have have heard John Clor from FP shouting about the II for years. I know that there is even a reunion now at WFHQ show. That is great. don’t

The Mustang II could be had with a V8 engine and the car's weight including an all iron V8 was ~2800 lbs. The styling isn't great, but that's a super solid vehicle as a basis for modification.

It also had SLA front suspension rather than cheaping out with struts. By far superior front suspension design compared to any Mustang made since then.

My opinion is the Mustang II is a lot better than most (probably not very informed) people give it credit for. I also think the Mustang II fits the original philosophy of the Mustang much better than our current version. If Ford would deign to make a cheap, lightweight and practical Mustang again, I bet sales would skyrocket.

Enthusiasts were buying this in the 1978….not Mustang II

Firebirds and Camaros of those years definitely look a lot better than the Mustang II, but they sure weren't powerhouses either.

I remember a guy locally to me when I was a kid with a Mustang II with a lightly hopped up 302 in it. He was racing a guy with a '76 Monte Carlo that had all kinds of mods with a 454, big cam, high stall converter, etc. The Mustang II was faster. I'm sure it's easy to visualize when you consider the sheer size of those Montes from that time.

A friend had a 302 Mustang II (boredom zero) back in 1980. Too light, and skinny tires. Couldn't keep the wheels from spinning from a stop and it oddly wouldn't start if it was raining. Strange car.

I'm not saying Mustang IIs are great, but I do think SLA front suspension would be a huge improvement that we will probably never get in a more modern Mustang. A little camber gain goes a long way.

I also wish the current Mustangs were less expensive and lighter weight - more like the Mustang II in those ways as well.

I definitely would not advocate Mustang II styling though.
