Is it just an excess port that gets fed back into the supply line? It's whatever red line comes out and goes to a t-connect on the supply line just before the fill reservoir. I'm not mechanically knowledgeable of any of this.
Looks like that, I wonder if it was an experiment they tried that didnt actually end up being beneficial so they went back? Either that or it is beneficial and they dont want people to complain theirs isnt the new model? I dont know why different versions would be shipping at the same time. The supercharger coolant tank looks different shape on the "old" and new models. I have old in quotes because these are being shipped out as we speak apparently because my kit was built very recently. The same "old" 1 passenger side port lid is still on their website for all of the pictures too.

Either way I don't think there would be any difference in performance most of the time. Maybe the new model is better for super long pulls? idk I am confused. The double return lines still feed into one line into the coolant reservoir so I dont think its really possible for it to flow more but like I said, I dont know.

As I said previously the dual port version appears to be the same lid that's used on the 3.8L. Look at pictures of both and you can see they are the same. I think eventually there will be only 1 lid, the 3.8L one and the 3L one will be discontinued.
I think the 2 port version is better due to the better flow rate. Even though its Y'ed down to 1 line most of the path is 2 lines. I wouldn't be surprised that the return tank will be modified to remove the Y and just have 2 inlets further increasing flow.

I wish I could see the heat exchangers in the 2 lids. Their patent shows multiple configurations.

Seems possibly correct but that doesnt really explain why some of the old styles are going out with newly received orders now though when prior orders had the double style lid. Also doesnt explain why whipple says there is no performance difference so there are a few options

Either it does increase performance and whipple doesnt want people with the old style complaining or attempting to upgrade. (this still doesnt make sense to send the old style out to new orders after some of the new styles were already going out imo)

or maybe it actually doesnt make a difference in performance with this size supercharger or coolant pump lines etc so they went back to the old style for the 3.0s?

Or maybe the double style lid actually performs worse for the 3.0 and whipple doesnt want the double style 3.0 people mad so they say it performs the same lol.

Not sure, but if its not as good - that kind of sucks for us that are receiving the old style on our newly received orders.

My guess it's a production issue. They likely have limited production for each lid and matching heat exchanger so which ever one they have on hand is what they ship. I would think that sometime in the future only the dual port one will be produced.

I got the call that they are packaging up the unit - and should be shipping it this week. Hoping for 1 week delivery time. I am set for them to get it into the car once it arrives.
Fingers crossed!

Edit: December 26th 2020 purchase - 28 weeks if it is delivered as I stated.

Without seeing how the lines are routed within the lid its hard to tell but it kinda looks like a bypass to prevent excessive pressure from building up in the primary line. If there is any type of thermostat or modulating device in that coolant system that reduces flow to allow heat to build up on cold startup or modulate to maintain a specific operating temperature then that may be a bypass so when that device closes down, the pump doesn't dead head and the flow has somewhere to go.
Either that or like some of your are saying its just to consolidate parts and use the same lid or pump on each model or generation.

I dropped my car off yesterday to have the 3.0 installed, couldn't get to the box in thier shop to see what lid mine had on it.

Just giving an update guys. I ordered March 28th and it just came in last Thursday. Ordered through local shop in Michigan(Alternative Auto Performance) who ordered directly from Whipple. being installed as we speak. Was originally quoted 15-17 weeks. So came in early.

Mine has been sitting on the bench for weeks since I got it. All the free time I had while I was waiting has seemed to vanish!
