After I posted the last couple of photo sets, I read through all 93 pages of this thread. I realized some people were more interested in the "How To" of the photo, more than the photos itself.

Here's a photo and it's details. I included the photo details, the before and after, and a quick explanation of how I did it. If you have any questions, ask, I'll do my best to answer.

Out of the camera:

For a lot of the higher end cars I shoot, I don't get the option of taking them somewhere so the backgrounds may not be very cool. Sometimes I will pick 1 or 2 from the set to edit into a better backdrop.

For this one, I used 3 photos. I used the original photo, a road that matched the angle and perspective of the car, then a sky that I could blend to both. After putting them together in PS, I used various color grading, LUTS, and gradients to blend the photos together so all 3 photos match and appear to be just 1.

Here's another one. This time a Ford GT.

Again, this is an example of not being able to take the car anywhere. I do work for my friend's business and with some cars the customers are cool taking them off premisis and with some they're not. Surprisingly, most customers are cool with it, but this one wasn't. We just pulled it out behind the shop and I got some picture from a few different angles, then took it home to play in Photoshop.

Here is the after. I kept the car and cement, but added in a sky and wall to make it look like a track. I also used techniques such as Color grading, Gradients, and LUTS to blend the photos together.

Just for fun, I added motion and some dust to make it look like it was moving.

My previous reply made me realize that I havent been sharing most of my work in places lately and I think It might be something I should start doing again. So, over the past year Ive traveled a decent amount and shot other things that havent been my car or my "stuff."

Its also pretty apparent that I havent checked in to update my gear opinions! I pre-ordered the R5 and have since gathered and replace a few of my lenses. I replaced my EF mount 24-70 F2.8 with Canon RF 28-70 F2; its WILLLLD to say the least - loving every shot. And I replaced my Canon 16-35 F2.8 USM III with the Canon RF 15-35 F2.8 IS lens. Having IS with the R5's IBIS makes for some crazy stuff.

Here is a collection of a few of my favorite shots.

These were shot at 1/10th of a second in a very very rough riding STI sedan.. and before the R5 got the same vehicle tracking the R3 introduced

Not sure if I'm allowed to post non Mustang pics so I'll throw one of them in as well. Top one taken in the Florida Keys.

Here's one I did of a Pagani Huayra. Again, with this being a $3m+ car, we really couldn't take it anywhere. I shot it inside the shop, and then used Photoshop to make it more interesting.

This first photo is kind of the original. It's a set of 5 photos taken with the light pointed at a different part of the car for each one. I then blended them together in Photoshop so the entire car is completely lit.

This is an edit where I just blacked out the background and blended it into the floor. I also added some smoke to give it depth and a little atmosphere.

I decide to take it a step farther by removing the background all together and adding a night scene.

Question about photographing autocross.

This Sunday is our opening race for the Detroit Region SCCA autocross. We are at Michigan International Speedway on the infield road course. I have volunteered to be the event photographer. I am also driving.

My plan: There will be about 160 cars to shoot(four groups of 40), perhaps I can get 3 or 4 of each car as it passes me (about 650 total photos).
I have a Nikon D5500 and want to try to keep this simple, one lens: Nikon 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR AF-S DX

What advice do you have for me to shoot cars at speed? From 20mph in corners to 50+ on a quick straight section.
I am hoping for one general shutter setting for ie 1/60 or 1/125... everything else is on Auto.

Information for the attached pic from an event last year: Nikon D5500 ISO 200, 1/400 sec. f/10 52mm
