I need a single turbo with excellent cooling characteristics that lifts the power curve of the car smoothly. I don't need massive peak numbers, I need a power curve, response, and reliability appropriate for road course duty.

ditto on single turbo, except I want massive power. I don't want the cost of 2 turbos. I'd rather have 1 single 76mm under the hood.

Actually, In a perfect world the twin turbo will make more power, have more response, and have more room to grow than a single.

We produce single systems on some of our previous model years, but the potential of the coyote engine really benefits from our quick spool kit. Our twin 55mm system has unmatched low end power along with a crushing power curve upstairs. Along with that instant response is the 1200+ hp they are capable of if desired.

The initial cost can be slightly more, but the results are definitely worth the investment!

I'm not bashing your twin setup - don't get me wrong. I'd have it over a SC all day, every day if I was a drag racing type (and could afford it).

What I'm not seeing is a mild turbo package designed for road course types like me. Id rather not pay ~$2K for some intake manifold add-on that gets me, what, 40-50 hp at the top end of the power curve as my only viable road course-applicable power-adder option. Boring, not enough, too much money for the relatively unremarkable results.

Hoping for a turbo package that is not designed necessarily for massive power, but gets you maybe to 600 HP and a typical turbo-born torque increase and curve that is very light, very simple, extremely well-cooled, and extremely reliable/durable. Some lag that many bash turbo's for wouldn't be unacceptable... I mean, if I'm in the lag RPM range on a road course I'm probably turning anyway. With modern turbo tech, could at least add some power at the bottom end to overcome the 5.0's lack of nuts before 3,500 - but focus more after 3,500, which is what my foot is at for basically 20 minutes straight.

The Mustang isn't about just 1/4 mi. times anymore. I've watched Helion twins literally disappear down a drag strip at light speed... but I can't help but think that the same car would overheat rapidly on a road course without a lot of supplemental cooling, special fuel, extremely advanced tuning, etc. Plus all that power isn't necessary.

One of the misconceptions turbo systems get is that they are drag race oriented only. We have many customers that use our systems on the road course with great success. The key is heat control as you say. We can set the kit at as little as 3 psi. At this level, the heat is at a minimum, and the power increase will deliver what is needed to perform. 30 psi is not needed, nor will it be controlled on the road, but it is available at the touch of a button on the boost controller if ever desired.

If the system were built with much smaller turbos to lower the peak potential, the system cost would be near the same. It is for this reason we put a pair of turbos with a wide power range as standard.

A single turbo system would actually create more heat as the surface area for exhaust to pass through is smaller.

You'll get smoother response from two single-scroll turbos than one single-scroll turbo, maybe a twin-scroll snail for a single turbo application would be good but you're going to raise the boost threshold by going to one single-scroll because you'll have to specify a larger turbo and run more boost for the same results, which would cause it to hit later. Working a single turbo harder will also increase the amount of heat you are producing on the exhaust/hot side of the turbo as well as decrease the intercoolers ability to efficiently cool the intake charge. If the car was GDI that would be less of a concern because you can run higher compression and get spooled faster, but, it isn't...

...so you aren't likely to do a whole lot better in terms of response/threshold with 2 55mm, and upgrading to the ceramic bearings. Sure you could do a single 55mm, get great low end response, and then wheeze out by 5500RPM but that isn't going to do you any favors on the road course where you spend the majority of your time at the top of the RPM range.

This is good information, and I understand the benefits of twins. Fundamentally, $9K for a setup capable of changing the rotation of the earth is overkill. I'm thinking, all included, $5K. Gotta be something out there. I guess there's just that annoying baseline cost threshold problem.

Plus, I have to give merit to mechanical simplicity and fundamentally, on a road course, I can de-prioritize low end power, which is the big juice that comes with a couple of turbos over just one biggin. Again, would like it to go up a notch just to compensate for the weak knees this engine has until it gets to 3500+, but just a smidge is fine - rather focus on power curves that match up to after I come out of a turn.

I mean, if I had the money - I'd make this work without question.
