I like the Shelby name. I think it's great that Ford has this history. The brand x competition uses XLZ or whatever letter combination they've decided on this week. I hate that! I think it's because they don't have anything better. Mach is an ok name but doesn't do much for me. I never really liked the Boss 302 name very much. Boss 429 is better, but only because of the fabulous engine they put in those cars.
Having said that, I don't think the name makes the car more or less valuable. The car makes it valuable. I was never interested in the previous Shelby GT350s that were almost identical to factory Mustang GTs. I also don't think if Ford stops using the name Shelby that our cars will become more valuable. They are just used cars now. Great driving, but not incredibly rare or anything.
I hope Ford can keep using the Shelby name, but if not, my decision on whether to buy a car will be based on that car's performance and desirability to me more than the name.
