I didn't sign anything or agree to a non-refundable deposit. I just texted the sales person I was dealing with and told them I would like a receipt for my deposit or some sort of documentation showing my deposit cannot be refunded. Additionally, I said I would be sure to proliferate my experience with their dealership as far and as wide as possible.

Well...the sales person quickly wrote me back and said I was very persuasive and that he showed the owner my text and they will be cutting me a check and mailing it.

Never put down a deposit without some written documentation that says it's fully refundable if the sale doesn't occur for whatever reason.

I just checked. I have the documentation that acknowledged the agreed price and receipt of the deposit. It did not say not refundable. So, if I decide to cancel I will ask for it back.

Uh, no. First, there has been no credible, official announcement of a GT 500 - just a siting of a mule that might be related to the GT 500 (or maybe it's just a cooling system tester for the 2018 front end). Second, who cares? The buyers for the GT 350 are not the buyers for the GT 500 lump.

Keep in mind...
Word on the street has been they will not run a 350 and 500 the same year.
So this might mean the 2017s will be if for the 350s.

Sorry - I should have included the point that GT 350 buyers who think prices will fall if and when the GT 500 hits are probably going to miss out on buying a new GT 350.

I forgot to hit the sarcasm button to make clear what I meant. Carry on . . .

Why not? Ford ran the Boss and GT500 during the same years. Market wise if the GT500 comes in starting at $60k with performance and tech packages quickly pricing it over $65k there is plenty of space for both.

The GT500 being $60K plus
The GT350 being $55 thru $60k
The GT/echo/V6 being sub $50k thru $24k

Something for everyone

Im torn between hoping 2017 is the last year and wanting enough cars to be sold for strong after market support

Sounds like the dealers that can afford to hang onto the cars are sitting on them hoping that they will be discontinued in my '18.

My personal experience:

  1. Called up/visited about 30 dealers from up to about 100 miles from me.
  2. Aprx 15 2016's cars available. 1 at 500 under MSRP. 8 at MSRP and the rest between 2k and 8k over.
  3. 4 2017's built and on the dealers lot. 2 of these were going for 5k over and the other 2 were 10k and 15k over.
  4. 5 2017's ready to be ordered from factory. 1 at 5k over, 1 at 7k over and the other 3 were 15-20k.
I wasn't willing to wait and or risk price/availability issues (I would never forgive myself if I wasn't able to get a 2017 in the exact spec I wanted and I was therefore forced to compromise or miss out entirely).

As other people have mentioned it really all comes down to personal choice. I would definitely say that with some good research and time invested its possible to find deals around 5-10k over. At that price its still worth it in my opinion. I would also say that MSRP on a 2017, already built or not, is currently very very hard - near impossible to find for 90% of people.

I emailed* about a 100 dealers before finding a 2017 msrp order(im still up in the air if they would of honored it the car is being made as we speak) I think you have to look at small dealer not near a city.

I find email works better they track the emails and follow up. I find when you talk to people they often throw out numbers assuming you are not serious or they are fishing for a sucker
