It's a little more than a few grand. It's like $6000 minimum upfront. Add in the increased gas use and the more expensive insurance then it is north of 10k. That's nothing to sneeze at in my world.
It's $7000 in MSRP terms... and I've found the dealers didn't want to move as much on the GTs. I'd say I probably save around $8500-$9000 over a base GT with this car.

Now, I don't count the gas savings, because I spent a little in modding (around $1200 so far - will stop around $2000) -- which negates that, given that the plan is to own this car for around 2-3 years, and then buy a GT350 :).

i'd love to buy a GT350 in a few years also, but i don't think it would make a good daily driver.

i'll probably end up with whatever the best bang for buck is in 2020. whatever it may be. camaro 1SS, tesla, etc.

You are right. The only thing missing from your calculation is money difference recovered at the time of resale. The reason I mention that is in truth, basically maybe 1 out of 100 keep their hotrod more than 8 to 10 years. The 4 or 6 cyl. isn't worth near as much at that point. If you don't believe me, look at the difference in value of a base '69 mustang, and a '69 428SCJ Mach1. I don't have anything at all against either of those engines, and if that's what you want, by all means go for it! I'm just saying when you look at TOTAL cost of ownership, the GT is the best deal- over the course of the entire time you own it- including when you trade it. One of the guys I went to school with got a new '71 AMX when he got his drivers license. I ran into him a couple years ago @ our 35 reunion and I asked what ever happened to that car- he said it was at home in the garage! His wife said she was :"gonna bury him in that POS". That's rare!

Congrats,

I also traded in my eco boost for a GT this weekend. My ecoboost started knocking on the lower end at 2000 miles, the dealer found metal in the oil filter and started to take apart the engine. I decided to make the swap. Here is the ecoboost.
Here is the GT
well that's certainly a better excuse than a recall to go with a gt lol.

Guilty as well, I did the same thing. Traded in the eco vert on a GT vert.

Nice car! Your Ecoboost was knocking, though? Did they ever tell you what was going wrong with it?
The last I heard from them was that they were still in the teardown process trying to figure out the extent of the damage and what caused it. I had the check engine light come on at about 1600 miles, a knock at cold start up that went away when the engine warmed up which started at around 1800 miles and then the knock that knocked all the time and was worse under load.

Well I took the boosted pumpkin back. Didn't feel like dealing with the recall. Yes I took a small hit but my brother took care of me so I picked this up yesterday:

2015 Guard GT Premium 19" wheels and an A6.
Congrats on the purchase DJ!

She's definitely a beauty!

What are your plans for her?

When we were deciding which engine to get in the little woman's DD/GG, we looked at total cost of ownership over 8 years, and the difference just wasn't great enough too justify NOT getting the Coyote! A few grand ain't gonna break the bank when you are buying a legend-in-the-making. Yes, you pay more up front, and you have to fill up more often, and pay more insurance, but it will ALWAYS be worth a WHOLE LOT more when you get tired of swallowing your tongue every time you stand on the throttle.
Not a big deal to me. I get 320miles from a tank. More than happy with the performance vs fuel economy.

I was one of them, you think you'd be fine at first... Until you saw and heard a 5.0:headbang:

Yah I test drove the EB at the Ford event in October and then got to drive the V6, EB again and the GT all back to back in that order later that month at the dealer. Game over at that point.

Though I do believe that if they did more with the V6 and didn't intentionally ignore it, I would be fine with that if it was in premium with just a little more HP/TQ.

Its a good entry level car that you can get at a killer deal.

Just once you drive the 5.0... There is no turning back.

All great choices for different people though.
