All,

Ive updated Sync 3.4 to version build 20282. and also downloaded the new map (my car still shows F9 though, thought it showed F9 before?) which took about 80 minutes to install. Got the success messages etc and remove the USB message but no log file was created to upload back onto the Ford Sync update page.

I downloaded the Ford file from https://www.ford.co.uk/owner/resour...logy/sync-general/sync-update-troubleshooting
this apparently creates a new log file when you insert the USB into the car. However i just get an error message when i plug the USB in after it stating 'update in progress'

'installation failed'
error code PKG_ERR04

Any ideas folks?

i had same issue with the latest map update. I've reformatted the USB key and put the update back onto it but haven't managed to schedule the upto 2hrs in the car to actually re-attempt the update. Bonkers it takes so long to update the maps

Agreed the update length and method is ridiculous and bloody annoying

I did my one and only update over 12 months ago. It was such a faff that I can’t be bothered to do it again...

The Sync update I did a year or so back would randomly prompt me that the installation was still in progress. After I plugged in the USB and left it for a few weeks nothing happened, so I just ignored it. The update I did last month seems to have resolved the issue.

There's a newer method that once the files have been downloaded creates the USB for you and you literally just plug it in and wait for it to finish.

I think the point being made is how long it takes. It took 45 mins for part 1 and 80 minutes for part 2 all of which you need to have the car on for, frankly I think it's utter shit and ford yet again release something unfit for purpose.

The state my car is in means that future updates probably won't work until I sort this out, again an absolute farce. Sync 3 is a pile of crap imo

BMW idrive downloads in the background then reboots and updates pretty seamless and doesn't require users faffing about with USBs and going for long drives

Have you tried the auto-update built in with Sync 3 ?
I can't use it as I upgraded my Sync 2 unit for a Sync 3, so it won't give me right updates and is why I do it manually.

I think mine took 30 minutes to update the software and maps.

Doesn't work mate. I don't understand why sync 3 even has the ability to check for updates over WiFi as it won't actually perform the update. As I said it's a pile of crap IMO

Maybe the new 2020 cars with inbuilt modems will. But anyone with an older car has to put up with this nonsense

I think Ford likes to tease us. Look, here's what you could have had if you'd gone German!

For the shts and giggles I just checked again, different Map update file so yeah lets try that instead. No idea why I had to check at this time on a Sunday night, not like Ford downloads are quick like ..

edit: POS stopped download twice for no reason. Sigh

Sounds like my unofficial update method is quicker and easier than Ford's :cwl:
