I don't think it'll be as simple as updating it for Sync 4, probably more like the Sync 3 swap for those that had Sync 2 where the whole thing needs to be changed out.

The 2020 Mustangs have 3.4.

You can easily update to Sync 3 version 3.4 which is what the 2020 cars are shipping with.

This is the unofficial 3.4. https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/sync-3-3-3-not-downloading-for-others.120522/#post-2519174 Ford has yet to release it to the masses. There may be another version floating around as well but this link is the one I installed.

Sync 4 will only be available for the new larger screens. These will not fit in our current dashboards. Maybe on the S650.

I’m holding out for the official 3.4 update from Ford. It’s a warranty thing for me. A lot of members have done it with no issues.

I wouldn't say it won't fit our current dash boards. The official press release has this paragraph:
Tailored to run on a variety of new touchscreen displays available, from 8 inches to 15.5 inches, SYNC 4 includes enhanced multi-tasking to simultaneously display different features at the same time, plus cord-free Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and SYNC AppLink compatibility
The highlight of course was the 12" and 15" screens but they have 8" options too. It'd be nice to see them consolidate around 8" being the bare minimum option instead of the tiny 4" screen in base cars.

I stand corrected, thank you.

3.3 is the current version for the 2019's some 2020's... some of the 2020's have 3.4
I don't think it's common knowledge of when 3.4 will be available... hoping soon

Sync 4 does mention that the 8" will be supported, but nothing about if it's 2021 and after, or will the 2019's that have 3.3 and above will be able to go to it... I think it's all a matter of space on the APIM, and possibly speed... and of course for updates you'd need the 'modem' for that I think the higher end Fords will have it...

I downloaded 3.4 to my 17 APIM which technically isn’t supported due to the internal partition being smaller than 18+. Works just fine for me.
