LMFAO $2099 for an APIM, a harness and FORSCan programming you can do yourself?!?!? 4Dtech is the biggest bunch of rip off artists out there. You can do everything they do for 1/4 of that $2099. I make that hub adapter for $10, the same thing they charge $50 f'n dollars for. This thread is for people that aren't interested in taking it in the a$$

What I don't understand..

From what I've been reading.. Won't this cause issues with Apple car Play?

I'm trying to do the mft-> sync 3 upgrade, but I'm having a hell of a time finding an apim. I just simply don't know what I'm looking at. I see a lot of apims for sale, but it's not completely clear if they're mft or sync 3.

I watched that over again, a couple times. It appears that he is plugging in 3 different cables into the hub, one of which he inserts the adapter cable. The 3rd one he reaches inside the console to get, but it isn't visible to the camera.

I found a video for installing the hub in a 2016, for CarPlay. Of course it isn't exactly like ours (MFT version) because it is already sync 3. But you can clearly see the 3 cables. The adapter for ours fits in between one of them (or you can hand wire it).

I feel your frustration. I have been reading threads for over a year, hoping to be able to do a decent upgrade to sync 3. First there weren't many to go to. This is definitely one of the best. But seems like everyone is scrounging for parts, not always knowing what the results will be.

So when I saw that full kits were available, programmed and ready to go, I decided to pay the outrageously high price and go for it. Probably what a dealer would charge IF they had them, which they don't. The kit has a 30 day return, and one year warranty. So if it doesn't work close to factory, I can send it back and reinstall my MFT. The only reason I went 4Dtech, and not OEM Infortainment, was the adapter they supply. I won't have to cut any wires, so going back to stock should be easy, if I have to do that.

The OEM feedback was fairly positive. The few complaints weren't any worse than complaints about factory equipment. 4D didn't have any reviews yet, so I may be the first.

Now how do I go about Identifying an APIM with Nav for a fusion

I don't have a reliable way to ID nav form non nav APIMs the way I can ID ACMs. Purchase from a seller that offers returns. I always recommend people check LKQ on Car-Part. As long as you have a local LKQ you can order from any LKQ in the states and it will usually ship free to your local store.

The cables are routed slightly different for the HU5Z hub and the connectors aren't the same. You can use cheap USB extension to adapt them or buy the Ford cables for 25 ea.

What I've laid out here works as long as people follow my instructions, It's when they start trying to change things or get cheap and try to substitute parts or skip things that they run into problems.

I spoke with another person today by phone who wasn't able to get Android Auto to work until he added the Ford USB cables and HU5Z hub. I don't know who said AA doesn't need that hub or how that became gospel but it appears that it does.

Ok, I see the difference now. I saw the pic but wasn't sure what I was looking at. :doh:

Anyway, finding a Sync 3 is like finding a needle in a haystack. I guess that's to be expected. I found a few, but that's after looking through a mountain of MFT.

I just dont know what I'm reading in the OP lol. Forgive me, but I don't know exactly what I need to order or buy to go from a base to sync3/CarPlay.

I have a rough idea of what I need but I'm not sure where to order or buy them
