I'd also check your current sync version installed to what is current and upgrade that also. Can't hurt! Also, anyone else you know that has an android phone to see if theirs works? Will isolate if it's your phone or not.

That's very much like what I suggested. I suggested trying his phone in another vehicle.
Basic troubleshooting, isolate the problem.

No, I don't have access to another vehicle. Yes, as in my original post, SYNC3 is updated.

I did not say to try your phone some where else, I asked if you have a friend that has an android phone to setup in your mustang to see if it acts the same.

I also had an S21, and it wouldn't connect to CarPlay either; it only worked when the phone was in Safe Mode. Later, I bought a different phone—an S24 Ultra—and it works perfectly. Could there be some kind of software issue with the S21?

Changed. It wasn't Samsung. They're great, and I love my Samsung phone.

My bad. No, I don't know anyone with an Android phone I can check with.

Might be a Samsung thing, my Sony works on my car but my sons Samsung is very clunky when we connect that. We even tried deleting mine incase it was that but still no better. See if a different make of phone is any better.

That doesn't mean that they would be above deliberately causing their own music ap to not work with SYNC3, to force people into new phone purchases. And FYI, about 3 months ago I had connection issues (later solved with updates), and I went to the AT&T store for help. One of their nerds F'd with my phone, and created a Samsung account and Google account, when it wasn't necessary. So within a few months of Samsung getting more details on me, my phone, and the car it was connected to, all this shit started.

So....here's where things are at;

I did a master reset of SYNC3, and of the phone's connections. That actually worked to force a fresh BT connection where it was clear that the phone and car did not know one another. After the SYNC3 master re-set, I also triple-checked that SYNC and everything on my phone was up-to-date.

I also checked every and all Android Auto and Samsung Music permissions, including battery usage. I also tried using both the USB cable, and the wireless adapter.

AND LO AND BEHOLD!!!!

It didn't do a damn thing.
Think about that for a moment. Why would Samsung stop it's older phones working with Sync 3 (a now effectively obsolete system) to force you to buy a new phone that will work with Sync 3 which they would have to update to support an obsolete system?

It literally makes no sense at all. If a new phone didn't work with Sync then that would make more sense but your phone is 4 years old.

Your phone will be on the latest version of Android OS and the latest version of Samsung Music - the same as on a new phone - because Samsung provide long term support.

If you do a bit of Googling you will see this is a common problem often fixed by removing the app and reinstalling from the Google Play store NOT the Samsung app store. It will be the Music app not the car or connection.

AA only properly supports apps from the Play store

Update; for the 386th time, I typed the issue into Google, but this time got the following, never before suggested........suggestion;

"Delete the (Samsung Music) app and download it again from the Play Store so Android Auto properly recognizes the media-playback permissions. [1, 2]

This took 2 minutes, and solved the problem. Everything is working fine now.

Thank you all for your suggestions, and for keeping me searching for answers. I take back anything and everything negative I posted about Samsung. 😂🤣

It's fixed. And I appreciate your help, including finding the actual answer. Odd that we both found it at the same exact time!!!😂🤣

Why would I suspect Samsung of stopping their music ap/phones from working with SYNC3? Because the industry, in the form of iPhone's well documented deliberate messing with their phone's battery life to create sales of new phones, has a bad reputation of doing such things.

Of course I no longer think that Samsung did any such thing, but it seemed plausible 15 minutes ago.
