SVT Certified Dealership - necessary?

This is probably a stupid question, but the closest certified dealership is about a four hour drive. Can the car be serviced at any non-SVT dealership, of which there are four I can choose from relatively close?

Had this same issue with the GTR, where the closest authorized dealers are 10 hours away...

It's not a stupid question. I called all the dealers in my immediate area and asked if they had any SVT-certified techs that could work on a GT350. All said no and that they wouldn't be comfortable working on it. I finally found one who claimed that had an SVT-certified master tech who, conveniently, quit before I was supposed to bring mine in. They've since hired a replacement, but they seem uninformed about these cars (specifically, my malfunctioning exhaust valves).

My experience with local dealer service has been all positive - though I've only had oil changes. They seem to take extra care and I was asked to rev the engine for one guy. Nice - although I suppose not unexpected that mechanics would like the hot rod Mustang. I have no idea if they are SVT certified or not.

He's in Canada. I think only SVT dealers there can sell GT350s, I would not think servicing would matter but they might have different rules there, hence his question.

I believe SVT dealers are a thing of the past. They only existed up until the '03-'04 Cobras. After the 2007 GT500 came out, any dealer could allocate one, so I would think any Ford dealer would help.

When I ordered my 2014 GT500 , I was told by the dealer that Ford requires the dealer to send a mechanic from the dealership to Ford for training on how to maintain GT500 Mustangs. I would think a dealer would still have to have a mechanic sent to Ford for training before the dealer is given allocations for GT350 Mustangs.

I know this is an old thread but felt I could add some info to this. Most won't care as this applies to Canadian dealerships only. I work for a Ford Dealership in Canada and the SVT dealer is sill going strong here. In the states any dealer can sell a Shelby or what used to be SVT, but my Ford rep told me that Ford has honoured the SVT exclusivity to their SVT dealers in Canada. I wasn't able to buy my GT350 through my dealer because we are not an SVT store. So SVT is a thing of the past in the US but not in Canada.

As for servicing, I believe any Ford dealership can do service and warranty work, but am not 100%

Any dealer should be able to assist you. Don't be afraid to ask if they have someone that knows the specific procedure for the oil change. The Oil Filter has a Specific torque ratio when installed. If not done properly, it can vibrate itself off after some time.

Go in and talk to the service manager. I have one person there that is qualified and works on my car and they are a non SVT dealer. Only pain is scheduling but it works. Benefit is that I know who is working on it and single point of accountability.

Well it depends on the work being performed, my regular Ford dealership would accept to do any body warranty work, but nothing drivetrain related.

Make sure to inform the Dealer than the GT350 uses a special oil and oil filter. The dealer I bought my GT350 had the oil, but not the filter and so it took a good long while to get from the warehouse. And thats somewhere where there is a couple dozen Ford dealers in a 4hr drive. I'd imagine them finding out the filter is special *AFTER* removing it will result in a healthy delay in your situation.
