Gen 1 MT-82 Just purchased a VMP Gen2r originally planned to stay n/a so I still have 4.10s in my car. I have no problems with traction and run Mt Street ss year round in Florida heat.
I’m being told my final gear ratio is actually like a 3.84 because of the tire height. I have 305/35/20s ..not really understanding how that works but my question is , Is anyone running 4.10s with a pd blower and if so is it really that bad? Should I go ahead and immediately gear back down before I install the blower? I love the 4.10s n/a I like being involved with the car constantly shifting keeps my attention focused on the road more but not being able to put power down can become very annoying and I’ve never owned a boosted car before.
Thanks

we usually recommend getting installed and driving the car, and see how you like it before making a gear change

Good idea I’ll probably just do that.

I agree with this because everyone is different. (One mans trash is another mans treasure )

It's going to be pretty aggressive.. but you may be able to get away with it. I ran 305/35R20 ET S/S for a LONG time with a 3.55 6r80 (similar..ish.. little less aggressive) and it was a blast.. I did ultimately go quicker with 3.15's... so if you're looking for ET, I am sure you'll want to go with 3.31-3.55.

Did you go majorly quicker with the 3.15s or was it just a little difference?
I’m not a drag racer but I am interested in going 3-4 times a year maybe just a test n tune type thing, car is specifically mainly for street fun only because when I go to the strip I’m sure I’m going to have to start replacing a lot more things consistently.. just want a fun setup overall that can rip my face off when I hit it or scare my passengers lol..

I wanna say it was 0.3 off my ET (9.9 was PB on 20's).

Since you're MANual, go 3.31's. 6R80 swap then go 3.15's. Just my 2 cents.
I originally had 3.31s hated them I realized I don’t like long gearing at all, I love the quick snappy aggressiveness but I’ve never owned a boosted car either. I want the most aggressive gearing but able to put power down at the same time. I’ve been told going down one step is pointless. Should I go 3.55s?

Generally, boosted (650+hp) MT82/6R80 cars usually run 3.31's/3.15's respectively for ET. If you roll race a lot you'll want those gears also. 1/4 mile with foot braking you won't be disappointed either. Just my opinion.

I’m running 3.73 with about 750whp and for having fun around town nothing can beat it. 1 and second can get scary but if you’re cruising and need to “pass” somebody lol...3rd is about as good as it gets for a 45mph start.

What tires are you running in the rear? I’m just going to try to put the biggest tire I can back there but want something that’ll last longer than Mickey Thompson’s
