Just curious has anyone ever wished Ford would make it an option? I've heard it would cause a pretty drastic roofline design change given the current shape. I'm speaking strictly of the s550. Thoughts?

I’ve always wished it was an option or that someone can do it aftermarket. Makes me want to buy a glass roof s197 although I think they don’t open

Yeah, I'm thinking between the center drop in the roof along with the front to back arc, Ford could have done a sun/moon roof, but it would probably been cost preventative.
(I don't remember the cost of the glass roof option on S197's, but it was huge money and *I think* Ford only sold about 5,000 copies).
Who would buy the option at a much much higher price point? Aftermarket could make a long skinny curved glass panel to fit in the drop (would you want that?), or they could make an exact fit piece with a bunch of extra stamping/casting manufacturing steps -- which means greatly inflated costs as well as being unique to only the Mustang (so no universal fit amongst a lot of car styles and makes). I'm not sure a manufacturer is going to make a profit on that for just one vehicle style. Seems to me the best option would be an S197 style glass roof (that yes, doesn't open) that will still be expensive to manufacture and install. That'll probably knock a bunch of potential customers out of the market, so still not worth building from a manufacturing cost standpoint.
My 0.02 cents.

My wife always bought vehicles with sun/moonroof and had left them open during torrential rains that appeared out of nowhere while she was working or during the winter and had woken me at 2am to shovel out the snow from the interior. Never again will there be another vehicle in this family with a roof that opens.

I had T-tops on my '83 GT, it was a cool option for cruising on sunny days. One side had a small drip in heavy rains. The driver side shattered once while I was driving on I-10 when I hit a rainstorm. I think the sudden change of temperature caused it. But overall, I have some fond memories of cruising the coast in Gulfport/Biloxi and the Miracle Strip in Panama City Beach back then.

I suspect they didn’t because the convertible is available.
But I do always wish it was an option, even if it didn’t slide back and just tilted I’d enjoy it.

I always like a sunroof.

I think it would have been neat if they had the glass roof option but definitely the convertible was the alternative in Ford's eyes for production simplicity.

I'm not complaining. Would rather have my convertible over the glass roof but I do wish the choice was available for others.

My last car was a Hyundai Azera with the panoramic sunroof. I loved it and got a ton of compliments about it. And it never leaked either. Would love the option on my Mustang, can't fit my bicycle in the trunk of the ragtop.

So SHE was the one who left it open but had YOU shovel out the snow?? I'm just busting your balls brother. Thanks for your input.

A glass roof was made for the 2016-2019 Camaro. The mold was made in Germany and the glass was shipped to the US for Installation. The cost was around $20,000 for the Mold and around $10,000 for each Glass pulled. Took a bit of fabrication, but not much more than required for the Caron Fiber Roof Mod on the S550. Only recall bout 4 Camaros were modified, but the Glass did have Ridges similar to the Mustang Roof.

I’m not sure that an open sunroof would look all that great on an S550. And as someone else mentioned, it’s something else that can/will break. The motor will eventually wear out, the seals will eventually wear down, etc. I’ve had several cars with sunroofs over the years, I don’t miss having one.
