I just had a rockford 500 watt sub installed to my 6 speaker system. Is this a good sub? I don't know much about this stuff.

Rockford Fosgate makes lots of subwoofers. What about the amp you are using to drive the sub? How about model numbers for both?

depends what you are wanting to achieve. stock stereo is pretty good (for me) and I just wanted some fill in low bass (60hz below). Having a level control up front lets me tune it as I want, and is the more practical consideration. JL Audio 10wv3 in a sealed box is a pretty awesome driver for the money and 300 RMS (not music watts) will drive it nice. Being said, any name brand 10" sub will do a job with fill for a stock system provided 300 RMS backing it. If you want to be 'that guy' then a pair of 10' s or 12's, sealed box and 1000 RMS. JL has lots of models eg., but you want to be looking at the size of magnet for controlled, clean, low end. Goes for any sub being considered. Why better subs cost more ...

It's the p500 12p 500 watt 12" with enclosed amp. It sounds good to me.

That's all that should matter. If it sounds good to you, doesn't matter if others think it is good or not. After having it awhile and the upgrade bug hits, you can do it all again
