Ran into this on the Ford Manual. Apparently already has a high flow H pipe. Trying to weigh my next upgrade. Max speed for the automatics is electronically limited? Can a tune fix this?

Correct. Inside the resonator is a H-pipe config. The GT350’s have an X-pipe config in there.
Not sure why Ford encased them inside those resonators, but I’m sure it has something to do with additional sound muffling to dial it in to 50-state legal specs.

For my next upgrade, I was leaning towards a a midpipe swap but after I read this, should I get a set of headers first? I am conscious of the decibel output and I want to get the most performance value with the least amount of volume increase. Im afraid of the amount of volume headers combined with an aftermarket H/X will produce. Insights appreciated.

Interesting. Does this mean that an aftermarket H-pipe wouldn't change the sound of the car much?

You answered your own question. Simply removing the resonated h-pipe with a plain non-resonated h-pipe increases volume quite a bit.

The stock resonator is not an H-pipe, it is two straight through pipes.

Yeah that will get you the most performance, but youll have to tune and that will lose your warranty. A midpipe swap is pretty negligible in terms of performance

I’m doing my best to delay warranty affecting mods. (I got the 10year comprehensive—mostly for the electronics). I figure I will give the car at least a year to give it a chance to show any manufacturing defects before I start messing with the engine. My immediate plan is for jacking rails and a steeda hop kit.

Not just the States, here in Europe the Mach 1 is by far the loudest stock car barely meeting the legal sound limits, loving that! 😁

So does track mode goes into illegal noise territory based on that warning you get?

The auto is electronically limited to 155-first I recall seeing that? I thought the auto could go 167.

This off your Mach-1?? The Mach-1 and GT resonators look exactly the same. (I have both) Then I’m thinking we call Ford out on this—so lame. Would be interesting to see a GT350 config from the factory
For the ā€œX-pipeā€; See if they are ā€œmisleadingā€ there as well.

Is the actual interior of the resonator different between the two?

This 155 is pissing me off more than it should too...Ford is so freaking sleazy on the marketing of this car - most track capable 5.0 ever regardless of auto or manual. So 45 more hp, a redesigned front end, undercarriage, rear undercarriage, Shelby parts everywhere, chassis tuning for cooling, downforce etc. etc., upgraded cooling and supposedly torque converter for the auto transmission and it still didn't get the top speed above what it had on the 2015 non-track pack GT that had none of that - it didn't even have a stock strut tower brace? WTF.

Just noticed the DH is pulling this crap too...DH top speed 168 (manual only) despite the 10 speed being available again with handling package. Meanwhile, what was the Camaro top speed with auto or manual...178 or something like that.

That is a pic I found a couple years ago when I was looking into replacing the resonator on my 2018 GT, it is not from my Mach. But from the outside, they look identical. I did cut out the resonator from my Mach and looking into the ends, there does not appear to be a crossover to make it an H-pipe. Wouldn't make sense from a production/cost standpoint either.

The GT350 X-pipe is a legit X-pipe, here a pic of one next to a Ford Performance X-pipe:
