All of the pioneer headunits with their new NEX operation system have native support for android auto and apple carplay. It also supports siri eyes free for voice command.
Great to hear. The one thing I wanted from the premium version was that ability, and I assumed the mustang community would be clever enough to make it happen. Glad I went with the base model!

Most aftermarket headunits use something called a Metra axxess that keeps the factory steering wheel controls... The biggest issue that we all know is how to make anything fit, it sucks :/

That and the fact that not one f**ing radio out there looks particularly good to me. The pioneers are close but they don't have one that really fits my project idea in terms of hardware. The motorized carriage will be an issue if the screen is detached and you go to eject a disk. The entire radio looks like it would have to be disassembled to deactivate the carriage.

Alpine has a unit called ILX-007 which looks perfect from a hardware standpoint. But software wise it is only a radio and carplay unit. Very limited and they still want $700 for it.:frusty:

I'm still shocked that Metra and Scosche haven't made anything yet, I mean the Mustang market is huge!

Well I guarantee you they are trying to replicate the entire faceplate with the circuit board. The 15 has only been out for a year which isn't much time for R&D and production sourcing when you are reverse engineering something like that.

Well update on ebay screen. Looks to be a bust, the seller barely responds and than says he shipped and will provide tracking later. And before this tells me the post office returned thr package due to address from fri to monday. He ignores all questions about the product and really didnt respond until i brought up filing a dispute with ebay and paypal. I would say this product is vaporware and doesnt exist. If i have no tracking as of 9am tomorrow i will be going for a full refund and reporting the auction. I would try the other auctions up but if you look at the shipping location exactly the same including the amazon item. I would take a guess they all the same seller. Just wanted to give everyone an update on this.

I wouldnt care to wait if he would answer any questions about it or respond with more than a few words just too much money to tie uo for something that might not be real.

The sellers may not know enough English to respond very quickly or sufficiently.
Regardless, it seems like the most viable and economical option may be to put together one of the so called "car pc's". Mounting the screen in front of, or in place of the current sync interface. I'm not sure how successful others have been with something like this. But I imagine that it would take considerable effort to make it right.

I have been researching this for the past 6-8 months. I think I have a solution but it would not be easily replicated for sale. People could follow my steps though.

Out of curiosity, has anyone taken out the 4.3in screen and measured the cavity to see if a DDIN stereo will fit or if the cavity can be modified to fit one?

Now I'm only going off of the pics I've seen in this thread. Maybe the premium faceplate will work. The toggle switches and A/C controls could be major compatibility issues. The only way sure way that I can see right now is to get a new base model faceplate, modify it to fit a 7in screen but be very careful when cutting the upper circuit board and modifying the keypad area, purchase a detachable faceplate 7in DDIN stereo like pioneer 4100NEX or kenwood ddx9702s/9902s, solder or make some type extstension ribbon cable which is a great idea that someone else posted earlier, mount the screen up in the new modified opening and line up ddin chasis in the lower section to get the cd to eject properly, use idatalink's "maestro sw" steering control module because it can be manually programed to work with any car, ditch the sync system and use android auto or carplay voices activation. But phone call quality and voice activation probably won't be as good as the sync system because the sync microphone is tuned for the cars cabin...... And still no word on an aftermarket dash kit.

I have not bought a 2015 yet because of the radio. I'm waiting to see how good sync 3 and android auto will be on the 2016. But if I can get ddin radio in the car I'll buy a 2015 for sure!!!!

So if anyone lives in San Diego, p.m. me to bring there car by the shop. I haven't got my hands on too many new stangs yet. Pictures and speculation only go so far.

Sorry for the long post, I've been following thread for a while so I had to get that off my chest lol

Just give me a week or so. Im working on the mft swap and it is quickly becoming more and more economical. Not to mention plug and play
Why not Sync 3 instead at this point?

I see almost all of you went for JBL. So which one are better the GTO 638 or the 629?

I still cant decide because I dont know the differences between them but I want the best sound possible for my pour base model system :(

I think the biggest thing for MFT is going to the availability of parts. I called a dealership and there price for the bezel and screen were enough to cover the difference of trading my car in on a premium model hahaha. Now that is straight from a stealership tho hahaha.

Has anyone purchased thru aliexpress before? I am thinking of trying to order a screen from them and pushing for faster shipping.
