Steering wheel install gone wrong - advice wanted

Swapped my steering wheel out, as I have done before without issue, but this time the plastic housing at the back of the wheel isn’t sitting right, had the wheel off twice to check everything and I can’t figure out what I’ve done wrong, anyone got any ideas please??

I couldn't get my plastic trim to fit properly until I realized it was interfering with excess leather that had to be trimmed away like it is on the OEM steering wheel. Once the interference, as minor as it was, was eliminated, the plastic popped into proper position. I don't know if that's related to your situation, but it might be worth a look?
