Ok so here’s a question for everyone, what the maximum steering wheel deflection you get on your GT500? Until yesterday I got just over 1 full rotation of the wheel before I hit the stop.

As I was leaving my house yesterday morning I heard a fairly loud metallic pop from the front part of the car and now my steering wheel goes 1.5 full rotations before hitting a stop.

opinions?

Dave: I feel sure that one of the experts will know but from where I sit, that's just plain weird.

I've never measured the amount of rotation but I do know this car has the turning radius of a dually. Did you notice an improvement?

Sure hope nothing bad was associated with the sound.

Yeah the car definitely has a large turning radius. That’s why I got concerned when it improved, haha.

Still not 100% sure about the sound. Dropped it off to get looked at. The tech couldn’t hear or feel anything at first. I pushed them to take it over some speed bumps at slow speeds to see if the noise reproduced, low and behold it did. According to the shop manager who drove it, “everything looks fine but it didn’t sound right”. So for now the digging continues

VERY interested, Dave and I damn sure hope it's nothing.
Well I finally got the car back. They heard the sounds coming from the front right and back left wheel wells. Visual inspection on the ground and up the lift revealed no visible mechanical issues. They re-torqued everything to specs and the noise went away. So I don’t know if stuff wasn’t torqued correctly at the factory, or if something worked itself loose. Time will tell if that was the real culprit.

Also had the warranty replace that pesky backup camera that was cutting out from time to time.

Could it be the mode you were in ie. sport vs. normal ?
I need to test this because I take turns driving my F-250 and the 500 and am not sure which is better (worse). I am sure the guys will tell us it is only the feel of the wheel and no mechanical advantage but I am wrong more times than write. lol

Interesting theory on the different drive modes. I always drive around in sport, so the unusual sound and the change in steering wheel travel definitely concerned me. The wheel travel has returned to “normal” since the re-torquing so we’ll see what happens.

Why doesn't someone go out to the garage and count the rotations from center to stop. I would, but it's in the shop.

2 turns lock to lock in all the steering modes.

Snoopy to the rescue as usual! I had a feeling 3 turns lock to lock was unusual for the size of these wheels.
