I just installed the Steeda progressive springs about 3 weeks ago and I like the look of it with no wheel gap. The ride is smooth on level roads but when it hits certain bumps it hits hard. My 96 has sportlines with koni dampeners and it doesn’t hit that hard on those bumps. Is this normal?

Pretty normal given you put on more aggressive springs and kept the stock non PP dampers. Your other car didn't do that because it had proper dampers to control the springs while this car doesn't.

The PP stuff is borderline for those springs, but the non PP is downright mistmatched.

Make sure your bump stops have been trimmed according to the instructions.

I have the same springs but I also went with the pro-action shocks and struts. Non-adjustable. I trimmed the bump stops per the instructions. The car handles 1000x better than stock. I have zero complaints about my setup.

I have noticed on some big bumps, it is a bit harsh but not like oh shit what just happened. I don't know if it's the nature of the progressive springs that they get progressively stiffer so on big bumps you get to the most progressive part quickly thus the harshness????

It's not enough for me to consider it an issue, just noticeable. I wanted a better handling car and there are always tradeoffs.

That’s what I am experiencing. I think later on I will get the Steeda shocks and struts.

I just installed the sport progressives and non-adjustable proactions this weekend. Did the trimming on the bump stops but chopped off more like ¾” because it equated to removing the first “snowman” layer (my OCD got the best of me). Also did the rear billet shock mounts while I had everything apart. I’m getting a little bit more jostle that I’m used to coming from a non-PP car, but I don’t think I’d call it harsh. I’d read on one of the forum stickies that the progressives are softer than stock non-PP for the first inch or so of travel. Guess our suspensions just move more than you’d think over medium-sized bumps. On a positive note, car stays 100% flat during aggressive cornering. I no longer have the sensation that the rear is ready to break loose without any warning.

OrangCrush what is your tire pressure? What kind of tires? What size/profile?

What kind of struts do you have? Did you also replace the top mounts? Does the bump feel harsh or is it more of a sound?

I just went through every single trick in the book on my S550 so I have a lot of debugging experience at this point.

It can be resolved. Process of elimination.

32 psi. Firestone Indy 500 tires 285/35/19 & 325/30/19. Base struts with same mount. It’s feels pretty harsh. It’s almost like I am hitting a full size speed bump going 40mph.

Yeah that is not normal at all. I have 285/35 Indy 500's on all four corners, at around 31psi.

Hate to ask but when installing the Steeda bump stops did ensure to only install the half-portion of each? Each set (front/rear) has two parts. You only use the 2 parts together on OEM springs. You use 1 part if you are on lowered springs. If you put the entire bump stop on then you're gonna bottom it out and have a really bad ride.

This. My PP dampers rode like crap with BMR min drop springs which are only 170lbs in the front

I used only one piece on each just like in their video.

We’re they installed upside down? Have you checked the box to make sure the springs you ordered are the springs you received?

Everything was installed correctly and torque to spec. Received correct springs. I think I am going to go with the koni shocks & struts since that’s what I have on my 96. It has to be that

I'd suggest either the Steeda's or Ford Track pack dampers. I haven't used the Koni's on this car but they arent know for ride quality.

I just put the Ford racing units on my car and love them!
