Found this while doing some research. From the Q&A on the CJ site...

. The 2016 Mustang Service Manual calls for a drop of Blue Loctite with a torque of 46 Ft Lbs on the bolts removed so do the same when installing the new hardware.

This completely. Torquing bolts, or wanting a number is being conservative with your installation, and there's nothing wrong with that. For beginners it helps to know what it should be so they feel a little better about what they're doing. Experienced people know that with flex and movement bolts WILL back out if their torque spec is below a certain threshold and the bolt location lends itself to those kinds of stresses. These bolts? Maybe not so much, but I'd rather not find out they're loose after the 3rd time getting the car in the air.

Blue loctite and torque to 45 ft/lbs. Seems simple enough. I did that and it took 45 minutes or so.

I tend to agree with Dr.Norts. There is a reason every fastener has a torque value.
I tend to be a bit anal about them due to my Aviation background.
Proper torquing eliminates guessing by the novice and gives the professional confidence.

there are several variables with torquing. Hardness of the steel, Thread type, shear strength, etc. to get the maximum out of the bolt without stretching or being loose enough to eventually un-screw itself, Torque!

I have no desire to hear a thud, followed by a clank, and then a lurch due to running over my jack rail and watching it go end over end in the rear view mirror down the highway in Mexico at 100+ MPH.

This.

You know I was thinking that these jacking rails make a great first mod. And honestly where else is it easier to get a torque wrench onto a bolt? Maybe on a lug nut, but on so many fasteners you just can't maneuver a long ass torque wrench in there at all.

And if you can't torque some jacking rail nuts then maybe wrenching isn't really for you? I mean putting on a spare tire is harder than this.

I was laughing at the guy before who came into the torque spec thread to complain about people torquing nuts!

You work aviation? I did, and torque hell we safety wired all kinds of stuff. So many cuts on my hands since you can't do it with gloves.

Can't happen, the front end hits the ground first driving the rear back up where it wedges in any convenient spot pole-vaulting your car (with a twist since the odds are only one side fell off). So there is absolutely no way you will see it in the mirrors as your car cartwheels and pirouettes down the road.

45 lb ft for Steeda and 63 lb ft for BMR, don't know why the difference
I heard it was because most Steeda customers didn't have the arm strength to do more than 45. ;)

So I've searched, and can't seem to figure out WHY there are these threaded holes in the undercarriage in the first place! Ford took the time and effort to put them there and install nice strong bolts as well. They are just perfect for the rails.

Any ideas?

In fact, I like the factory bolts better than the Steeda supplied ones, they are a bit longer and have a washer as well. They are also grade 10.9. Any ideas why Steeda might not suggest reuse of any existing hardware?

The threaded holes are from the manufacturing process via Ford Motor Company.

You can reuse the existing bolts - we supply a backup or in some cases, the Mustang didn’t come with the bolts at all.

Hope that helps!

Does anyone know off hand what the torque value for the 4 bolts that mount each rail should be?

I've heard 35 ft/lbs, LMR recommends 45 ft/lbs in their install video and 63 ft/bs on their website lol. Quite a varying range.

Steeda doesn't supply a torque value on their website or installation instructions.

It's nice out today and would like to install these this afternoon.
I welded mine in

Really? Why?
I wanted reinforce my chassis since I did all the steeda products on my car.. Plus I like to weld with my mig. I welded the G-brace in just the back 2 supports. I also added metal plates to the center of the jack rails that I welded to the chassis. I bought larger chrome exhaust tips and had to weld a smaller extension pipes on then welded on the tips. If I brought it some where it would have cost me some money for them to do it.

We offer weld-in rails for the Focus ST - not uncommon to see people weld them in!
