Does anyone know off hand what the torque value for the 4 bolts that mount each rail should be?

I've heard 35 ft/lbs, LMR recommends 45 ft/lbs in their install video and 63 ft/bs on their website lol. Quite a varying range.

Steeda doesn't supply a torque value on their website or installation instructions.

It's nice out today and would like to install these this afternoon.

45 lb ft for Steeda and 63 lb ft for BMR, don't know why the difference but other videos just use a impact to tighten, no torque mentioned.
Thank you sir, much appreciated.

All installed. That was easy as hell. Had to scrape a bit of seam sealer off. I smeared silicone in between the pinch welds where the seam sealer was over top.

That was a 1 beer job. Doesn't get any easier.

Did mine this morning on my convertible.

TJ said 45 ft lbs for torque spec.

Ran into a small “challenge” with the final bolt not lining up exactly. Off it came and tried a different order but still no dice. Off again and elongated the front most bolt hole on the passenger side with a round file. Not as elongated as the rears are side ways but just a smidgeon. Easier to take the 2 minutes and do this than to force the bolt in and risk cross threading. After this quick clean up they bolted on perfect.

I’m impressed. They certainly feel quite solid. Aluminum spacers on the rear are nice! Too bad you can’t see them.

Course, the reason I got them is for the function they serve. They will do well for everything I need them to do.

Good purchase!

I haven't torqued jacking rails... like, ever. Ugga dugga measurements, sure.
I torque everything. Every fastener has a torque value for a reason and it doesn't take any longer to tighten it to the correct value than it does to just get it as tight as you can or not tight enough.

If your a weakling you may not even be getting them tight enough and the opposite and worse thing you overtighten and snap a bolt head off.

To each their own though. It's your car do what you want and I'll do the same to mine.

Agreed; Get a Torque wrench. Doesn't take anytime to do it. And you'll use it all of the time anyway.

Get a DECENT torque wrench. In terms of cost/benefit the off-the-shelf wrenches at Sears (Craftsman) aren't bad. I'm luck enough to have a Snap-on I scored off of ebay about 20 years ago, but that's over-kill.

Don't rely on some cheapo torque wrench from Harbor Freight or whatever. It has to be precise, and you should zero it out when you're not using it. Also testing it against a beam-style torque wrench to evaluate accuracy is a good idea.

45 ft/lbs is plenty for these rails. I went with that b/c I heard it mentioned a few times, and my tighten-by-hand range is about that anyway. If you wrench on things enough you'd probably find that your average tightness by hand is somewhere between 35-45 ft/lbs with bolts that size.

With smaller fasteners you obviously have to be more careful, so having torque specs in general is a good idea if you've learned the hard way like me, broke a few and had to spend a few weekends in the past drilling out holes, tapping them, or installing a helicoil. Lots of bad sunday afternoons there...

LOL at people thinking you need a torque spec on jacking rails. Last time I checked jacking rails aren't a wear item and it has no mechanical/moving parts. Just tighten the dang thing down and call it a day. Stop over complicating things.

Don't go roid rage on the bolt, just make sure it's tight and you're fine. Your life doesn't depend on the torque of this bolt. I repeat your life doesn't depend on the torque of this bolt.

lol. It's not like it takes any extra time to actually torque it.

I'm with ya. I usually torque down what I can. But if it's something that isn't vital to torque down, then it isn't a big deal. Just tighten it.

Your life doesn't depend on alot of the bolts. Yet every single bolt on your car was torqued at the factory and has a given torque associated with it.

Every. Single. Bolt.

Again thanks for the torque value bj!
