when I run it hard I shift like this guy

skip to 1:16

Now that was funny...pumping the hell out of the brake pedal...

In regards to the Steeda spring...without feeling the clutch engagement point was just too hard for me on the track...the Steeda spring kinda helped that situation for me...so I get it a thumbs up...

The brakes and the fire suit came from the same supplier...

I haven't had the assist spring in for about two years and haven't had any problems. I actually bought the steeda spring for about 12 bucks but broke the retainer clip thingy while removing the old spring. I'd like to install the steeda spring at some point just to see how the pedal feels. The new clip wasn't available from Ford unless you bought the whole assembly for $250 but steeda sells one now, but until it's not $75 I'm not gonna fool with putting the steeda spring in. I'm guessing they need to price that clip high to make up the R&D costs and such, but $75 for a piece of plastic the size of a thumb is insane.

I put one in and it felt better for around town driving. NOT so much for balls to the wall high RPM shifting the pedal would stick to the floor and would pop back up once the rpm came down. I put the stock one in and the problem went away
I have a new GT350 and the clutch is, well, weird. But what's really weird is that on high RPM very fast shifts, I find that the pedal comes up slower than my foot! This is stock mind you. It freaked me out the first time. It's like the pedal just hung up on the floor. But at least the car shifted fine (ie, the clutch engaged right away).

I'm debating the spring for my car too. Their web site says it's not for the GT350, is that not correct or do you guys just leave out the second spring?

My car did that completely stock too. Once I swapped the assist spring to the Steeda one, I never experienced that again. My foot used to come up faster than the pedal and I could feel the pedal trying to catch up. Such a weird feeling and it only happened with high RPM shifts. With the Steeda spring, the clutch never leaves contact with my foot and it comes up instantly like a normal clutch should. I don't know something was binding in my OEM setup and I fixed it during the spring swap or if the Steeda spring itself solved the problem but all I know is that I never had that issue after installing the Steeda spring.

Another vote for the Steeda spring, everything feels as it should now.

Do I just need the 20 spring? What's the deal with the double spring on GT350?

The spring is needed. The stock double spring is supposed to help those who are not used to manuals understand engagement points. But it’s a pain for those who actually know how to drive.

Was my first mod as I had one laying around and never looked back. The steeds spring makes the clutch so much more linear as it should be

After using the Steeda spring, I decided to pull it and try no spring. It's the best, most "normal" feel. The Steeda, or any spring, mounted to the factory location is still providing resistance/support in a non-linear way. And my pedal comes fully to the top when I'm driving. Old school return springs are like garage door springs, they just stretch when the clutch/door is down and extended, then they pull bot back to the top as it rises in a linear motion because of the mounting points. The OEM spring mounting point is whacky!

I see no harm that can be done and have read up on this as well. After all, the clutch has springs in it as well.

I just installed the steeda spring and while it definitely has a better feel than the stock spring IMO, it’s got this weird “dead” spot right at the top where there’s a good amount of play in the pedal that wasn’t there with the stock one. I even switched the stock spring in and then back to the steeda to feel the difference in play, and the steeda spring just feels like the pedal is limp and floppy for like a 1/2inch of travel before there’s any resistance and it feels like I’m actually pushing the pedal in.

Anyone else experience this pedal play? Did I get a dud from steeda?

I took my stock one out and wrapped a purple rubber band around it. Feels great.

Mine doesn't resemble that at all - no flop to it or excessive top of pedal travel. Doesn't sound right to me. Haven't tried the pedal feel w/o the Steeda spring but maybe one day I'll give it a try. Clutch action with the Steeda spring seems pretty good to me and I own a couple older 4 speed cars. Factory clutch spring was a crazy set up - felt completely un-natural. Although for the couple weeks I drove it that way I don't think I ever managed to stall the engine.

My issue withe the stock setup was it was hard to tell the engagement point when on the track. Around town it wasn't an issue but it did feel unnatural being so light. The Steeda spring helped with the feel on the track but its not perfect...just better. I'm not experiencing any other issues with it so overall I think it's a good product for me. :like:

Yeah seems like the play in the pedal I’ve got isn’t normal, I’ll take the issue up with steeda and maybe they can get me a replacement. Could be that it’s defective and is just slightly off in size or tension and that’s what’s causing the slack in the pedal.

Overall it’s definately an upgrade, I think it helped the clutch feel significantly, especially for being such an inexpensive mod. That play in the pedal travel though isn’t very pleasant and is honestly a bit concerning, don’t want the pedal sagging to cause any excessive wear on the clutch components. I know that’s not likely, but my previous car was modded as hell and I’m just used to being paranoid about everything aftermarket I install being done perfectly for fear of breaking something.

So you guys all got the one listed for S550 (even though it's in the GT350 category). 35 lb/in?
