I'm liking this idea. I only have the 9 speaker system, but it looks like you ended up not even using the original sub for anything anyhow. Unfortunately I don't actually have a spare tire. Do you think one of these would still work? Or should I consider one of the rectangular powered subs for the spare tire well? I want a clean install and look that won't break the bank.

I have the 9 speaker system but have not yet made a decision on what I’m going to do for a sub yet. What I can say is that using forscan to “flatten the EQ” on the 9 speaker should be the absolute first thing that is done. A true night and day difference. I’m not sure if it is actually is flattening the EQ as everyone says, but whatever it is changing is for the better.

You don't need a spare for it to work, it just sits where the spare would be. You need a 6mm threaded rod and wing nut to hold it down and maybe something to prevent rocking on the spare mount boss.

I’m clueless when it comes to audio. Would I be better off tapping the factory output before the amp rather than the rear speakers? I only ask because I have to run wires up front anyhow for power.

Yes... you can even get some T-harnesses for this task. This way you don't have to cut or splice into any of the factory wiring.

So either way works. I misunderstood. I thought you just tested the factory sub amp wiring. I was referring to the front amp. (I don’t have a sub.)

It's usually better not to run signal next to power, if that helps any. Might get some noise...
