Been using Google without success. Anyone seen a custom box in the spare tire well? Links?

Thanks!

Some one on here with a GT350 put a JL micro 6.5 in there. I tried an 8" version and it was pretty decent. I now have a JL 10WT3 in a homemade box. It is not wildly custom as it is just a box. It is clean and stealth with good depth and output. No pics as of yet.

What are the dimensions of the box you threw down there? Did you perforate the carpeted truck bottom that lifts up for access?

JL sealed spec called for 16 x 13.875 x 6.5 OD or 1,143 cubic". I went at 23 x 12 x 4.5 OD(before triple baffle so actually 6" thick) or 1,173 cubic". That allowed for some bracing. 3/4 MDF was used. Due to the parameters of the woofer I used, minimum depth and thick face and excursion I did a triple front baffle. The sub is mounted to the first and the second and third provide depth to protect the speaker.

I did not perf the carpeted area as it is not needed for sound. My amp is down there as well so I am monitoring temps on it for now. It is running cool. I did however remove my rear speakers as I do not use those. I doubt they were much if any of a sound restriction but at one point with a different sub that had limited output I was grasping for straws.

No benefit. The OE enclosure treated with sound deadening inside and out along with. $300+ sub and 400+W @4 ohm amp in the well. Can also put some spacers in-between the seat back and bottom to open the airflow from trunk to cabin.

While I didn’t put my subs in the well I have my amps there in a custom setup. You have enough airspace to run at least a 10 or shallow mount 12.

Here’s my setup.

And the finished product:

I use my trunk to haul tools and such and was concerned about damage. I put mine in the factory location

I'd love to use the spare tire well to house amps, but im paranoid of not having a spare. I guess everyone either carries plug kits and compressors or had a great roadside plan. Or maybe I should just say Eff it and let it fly because it's a weekend car. I really dig all the creativity on display of what you folks have done.

Well you can always throw a spare in the truck if you go on a longer trip and carry a tire plug kit and compressor locally. I have a pack of CO2 cartridges and tire plug kit for local drives.

Interesting touch adding the fans for cooling.

I always keep a plug kit and battery-powered air compressor in the car, as well as USAA.
