Sound deadening project had begun

I bought three boxes of Noico sound deadening material back in December of 2020, planning on installing in my Escape. Never got around to it. Here’s what I did so far - not quite one box. Going to try to do as much as possible in this car, hopefully it will help.

Nice work! As time and projects permit, I've been doing this to my '16 Interceptor. I found that something called "Peel & Seal" is the same, or very similar to the other brands....and you can buy it at Lowes...much less costly than the other "brand names".

Expand your deadening.
Remove the molded carpeting from the sides of the trunk.
Those areas are like a bass drum of road sound.
Amazing amount of resonant real estate back there.

There is much, much more that I am seeing I forgot to photo yesterday - this was a massively labor intensive project - five hours saturday, and eight hours sunday - and another five or six hours last weekend. It isn't even finished yet - I can see why stereo shops charge so much money to do this - it's a big job.

So far, yes, there is a pretty noticable improvement over stock.

Are you doing an SPL build? Reason I ask is that sound deadening has a law of diminishing returns and covering every inch of metal wastes a lot of material if you aren’t doing a competition build. 50% coverage makes a huge difference…but from 50% to 75% it’s not nearly as noticeable and 75 to 100 would take a trained ear to hear the difference.
I’m currently doing the same to my car but my experience tells me that it’s a waste of time and money covering every exposed inch of metal. Good work though! It’ll be vibration free for sure

No, not at all - I have never really been into car audio. I bought three boxes of the stuff two years ago, for my old Escape - which had way more surface area to cover. So, as far as wasting material - I get it - but I have more than I need anyway.

Really, my goal with this is to eliminate road noise as much as possible. I did notice that my little bluetooth boombox sounded better and better the more coverage I had. I did notice fewer noises driving to work this morning from the rear - going over bumps was most definitely different than before.

Have you done the rear deck? The trunk light housing is very loose and rattles bad, I had to wrap the edges of the metal with JK tape and also put a few strips on the housing itself. It’s now very snug and won’t be rattling anymore lol.
The rest of the shelf has a lot of ribs stamped into it so it doesn’t require a lot of deadening.

@Earlsays , would you mind linking to the Noico packs you used and how much you think I'd need? I've been looking for a way to do this in my car as well, damn NY roads are awful.

You don’t need to pull the c-pillars at all. Since you already have the rear side trim out all you have to do is remove the two Christmas tree clips and then grab the carpet panel and slide it forward towards the windshield. It comes out super easy.
