Sometimes engine don’t start at first time

Hello,

I have a 2018 GT and as subject indicated, sometimes the engine don’t start at first time.

Battery changed last summer, and sparks also in summer; 64000 kilometres (not miles).

it something that I have since coupled of years but the Ford and mechanicals doesn’t know what is the issue.

It never happened in a cold starts; never never.

And the issue is not common, maybe in 1 of 30 engine starts.
Is more common on short time use; when I make short journeys.

Is very similar at when the is close to dead, but as I mentioned the battery is new.

Alternator?, fuel pump?

Someone has experimented similarly problem?

A quick test to check for fuel pump operation, disconnect the fuel line from your fuel rail and put the fuel line into a container. Cycle the ignition (but don’t start the car). If fuel s prays from the line into the container, you may be able to rule out a faulty pump. I say may, because it still could be an intermittent pump problem.

Hello; A very unlikely thing which happened to a friend of mine many years ago. His Jeep had intermittent starting problems which eventually sometimes caused a shutdown. Turned out to be a faulty crankshaft position sensor. I think a mount issue was part of the problem. When the engine would quit he could wait about 20 minutes and it generally started. Guess was the sensor cooled down or the mount was somehow affected by heat. We did not test these theories. After replacing the sensor it started up all the time.
There is likely isa way to test the sensor. I had a no-start on my 2001 Sentra a few years ago which turned out to be a bad immobilizer. I did test the crank position sensor during my search for the problem.

I may be wrong but think the car may have camshaft position sensors as well.

Check for loose or chewed wires perhaps.

has it been unusually hot in Spain ? Although rare.. FI can sometimes experience vapor lock. Especially with non ethanol fuels.

Hello; Some years ago I pulled into a truck stop with an E-150 Ford van ( the one in my picture). When I tried to start it after a meal it would not crank well. Finally jumped it with two batteries. Dorve the rest of the 350 miles home without turning it off. Did some checking and found corrosion under the wire insulation in the main ground wire from the battery. Do not recall if I replaced the whole wire or cut off the corroded end. But a clean and good ground fixed it.
On a F-150 pickup I was replacing alternators almost every year for a while. I was told to replace the harness that plugged into the alternator. Seems the factory ford plug in tended to corrode. Did not have to change alternators again.

Guess i am suggesting to check and clean chassis and other grounds.
