So yesterday I went to start my '15 GT and when I stepped on the brake pedal, it wouldn't move. After about 5 min. It did move forward and I was able to start the car. This morning the brake pedal was again very stiff, but I was able to start the car. No work has been done to the brake system.

Has anyone else had this happen? This is the first occurrence since I took delivery back in December 2014.

Thank you,

Yes it happens.

If you push the break pedal you lose the assist it had built up from the engine running. subsequent attempts the pedal will be stiff until the engine runs. Just push the pedal firmly so it will travel far enough to trigger the brake lights which is what allows the push button to start.

Your basically just pushing the pedal on a manual brakes car. Just have to push hard enough to reach the start safety feature.

Thank you Jay. I'm not sure why it's taken almost 2 years for this to happen. You're right. It does feel like manual brakes. I did check my brake fluid level and it was full. Any idea if the pedal travel will go back to what it was?

quick update: Turns out the check valve had gone bad. When the car was off, the stored vacuum simply leaked out. A part failing in just 2 years... Every auto manufacture keeps the build cost down with lesser grade parts so I'm not surprised.

update to the update..

Turns out it was not the check valve. Now the dealership is going to replace the booster... Only problem is, according to Ford, the booster is on back order. Current return date is 8/14/17. I can't believe I have the only 15 - 17 Mustang that has had this problem.

I'm having the same issue on my '17 GT auto. Problem started with less than 2000 miles. The issue is intermittent. Sometimes the car can sit for 5 days with no problem. I took the engine cover off to trace the vacuum line to its source, and it disappears under the intake manifold. In addition to the check valve on the brake booster, there is a vacuum sensor with wires coming off of it. I have not taken it to the dealer since I'll probably just get the "No problem found" or "Could not duplicate" diagnosis.
