metallic clank sometimes when starting

so maybe 5 times ive heard a loud metal clank when the engine turns over yikes! it will happen maybe 1 time in 4 or 5 times starting the engine,as i am driving around and then letting the car sit for a while in between starts. it happened tonight in the garage after it sat for about 2 3 hours. scared my friend who was standing near the rngine. other times the engine was warmed up, tonight it was cooler, oil temp needle was at the hogh end of the white.

what the heck. anyone else heard this?
