Last week I parted ways with my 2016 GT350R. Grown man tears were shed.
Shelby ownership has been a life-long dream. When I was 6 my dad took me to the Contemporary Classics factory in Mamaroneck, NY to see the Cobra replicas built there. I was hooked. In high school I bought a rusted out ‘68 C-Code convertible that I loved. After college I took auto body classes at a community college and restored a ‘67 A-Code 2+2. Shelbys and Mustangs have just been part of who I am for as long as I can remember. The GT350 was the only modern Mustang that caught my interest, and I’m glad it did.
I installed rear seats in my R so I could enjoy it with the family and so we did. I did what Rs are meant to do and tracked this car at MSR Houston, Utah Motorsports Campus, and the best track I’ve run to date: Circuit of the Americas.
I’ve gotten tired of cars before. Actually, I got tired of every car before. I never got tired of the GT350R. Every cold engine start, every heel-toe downshift, every tunnel with the windows down... this car delights all the time.
Next for me is a 2019 Porsche 911 Carrera T spec’d as a pure enthusiast car:
2019 911 Carrera T
WI Standard Interior in Black/Guards Red with Sport-Tex Seat Centers i.c.w. Carrera T Interior Package
470 Rear Axle Steering
509 Fire Extinguisher
603 Bi-Xenon Headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System
EKL GT Sport Steering Wheel and Manual Gear Lever in Alcantara®
P11 Full carbon fiber bucket seats
QR5 Sport Chrono Package
It’s as lightweight as a 991.2 Carrera gets. I wanted to replace the GT350R with a very different experience: lightweight, rear engine, turbocharged and the Carrera T offered exactly that. Mine has the rear seat delete but like the R I’ll be installing a seat for the kiddo. This isn’t my first Porsche experience, but it is my first 911 experience. I hope it lives up to expectations.
Y’all be good, and listen to Stanglife and Honeybadger. They know what’s up.
I will be selling some parts including:
