2020 GT here. Got my oil changed at 2750 miles the other day. As soon as I started it up i noticed a new ticking sound. Added Ceratec when i got home and it went away within seconds. Haven't heard it since.

My engine is quieter after changing to 5W-30. The tick is random though and I do not sweat it, just giving a data point.

I think the noise is due to oil cavitation.

Don't think a little ceratec would stop the sound in a few seconds if that was the case.

Really? I do.

Car Ticks...Add Ceratec...Tick Stops.

What do you think stops the tick after Ceratec is added then?

Perhaps you do not understand what cavitation means/is.

So I have had the tick since basically day one. Bought my 2017 GT Premium brand new off the lot with 11 miles on it. I made sure to do a very thorough and proper break in, not babying it but not wringing it out, and stepping up the driving intensity as the process progressed. I have only used name brand oil and made sure to always change it at proper intervals. I have always let the engine get a little heat in it before taking off and driving anywhere I go. After all of this, along with reading for countless hours on all forums including this one, I have arrived at the most sound and appropriate fix for the dreaded BBQ tick.

That fix is....

Get headers lol. Honestly though, after several oil analyses and lots of testimonies from forum members that have gone as far as tracking their own car for years while having the tick, I am convinced that it causes no mechanical detriment. After putting headers on my car, I literally can't hear mine inside or outside of the car. If this tick really was a mechanical problem, we'd see a lot more tick-infested engines having catastrophic failures.

Let the cylinder head temps get up, and drive it like you stole it.

I have a 2019 GT PP2 and I noticed the tick twice. First time was at 200 miles, went away at 500 miles. Then, it came back after a fresh new oil change to 5W-30. Went away after 500 or so miles. Now at 5000, I haven't heard it, even after a new oil change at 3k.

Sounds as random as mine.

Cavitation is when small bubbles of vacuum form in a liquid. They can form in engine oil around close tolerance areas and when they "break" you will hear a tick noise. Viscosity/lubricity is most likely effected by the Ceratec which may prevent the oil from forming the bubbles..

Here is a cool demonstration of cavitation in nature.

Do any of you have this problem?

I hold the clutch in, press the button, and then my car starts shaking. With my left foot on the clutch, and right foot on the accelerator, my car shakes even more, and makes lots of noises. Like, a lot. The neighbors are angry because it's 11pm here, and I'm not sure what to do. The problem goes away if the car is not on.

I have a 2018 Mustang GT, if it helps.

I took the injector/engine cover off mine to increase the ticking sound ...
Now I know the purpose of the sound tube; to increase the volume of the “tick”!
