The one in front is Zelda who is going on 14. Twilight is in the back and is about 5. They're on my daughter's bed AKA "The Dog Lounge" when she's away at school.

From front to back that's Carl, Bean, and Stew lounging on the guest/office bed. We lost Carl in October '24 to kidney failure, but he was 17. We miss him, but we gave him the best life we could.

We used to have cats. But when we bought our house things changed.

Are they males or females? We used to have one from "newborn" with eyes closed and she was great while a kitten but after becoming an adult, was a real "bitch" and we couldn't give her a bath without getting shredded by her claws. We heard males were more playful and cuddly even as adults.

I’m not getting that with my cats.
I have a male cat (Tucker) who likes petting, but not cuddling. And there’s such as too much petting. He spends a lot of time just out of arm’s reach, just hanging out.

My other male (Wasabi) likes to cuddle and nuzzle me. He would love to nuzzle my face and I can’t allow it because he’s the allergen king: I think he produces more allergen than the other two cats, combined.

My little girl cat, Miura, likes to cuddle with me. She never hurts me on purpose, but if something scares her the claws ALL come out and you’d better not be holding her.

The girl cat before her (Savanna, RIP) also liked to snuggle with me, and got jealous when my girlfriend came over.
Savanna would lay on me and eyeball my girlfriend, and give her this long, trilling meow that we took to mean
“Step off, b****!”

They’ve ALL been playful.

As strange as it is, I keep hearing that cat behavior varies a lot by color.
There’s a stereotype for male tuxedo cats. There’s a stereotype for male tabbies, and Wasabi fits it well:
Very friendly, all attention and no comprehension.
Savanna fit the stereotype of tuxedo females: Above average intelligence, very loyal to the caretaker, and a bit troublesome
Also, Savanna’s voice and mannerisms were the spitting image of the tuxedo female I grew up with. But they were born 23 years and 1300 miles apart.

A veterinarian told me Tucker’s shyness was normal for a ginger male.

Back when I was married, my in-laws had 17 indoor cats, and they segregated themselves by color.
The gray long-haired cats (the Dustmop Gang) were the smartest, and taught newbies all kinds of mischief, but also good habits.

The Dustmop Gang taught Tucker and Savanna to use one litter box for pee and another for poo. They also taught them to put away their toys.
I realized that when Tucker and Savanna were about a year old, and a visitor came over, and we walked past the toy corner. ALL the toys in one spot

No indoor pets for us, so it’s two outdoor cats for mice control. Syd (aka Wild Thing) is 10 years old and only weighs about 8-9 lbs. She is by far the best mouser I’ve ever had. She will catch them and bring them up on the deck to play with for awhile. She then leaves it at the back door to show off for about a day before it gets consumed.

Then there’s Leo. He’s 9 years old and weighs about 17 lbs. Decent mouser and just a lover. He might be the biggest cat I’ve ever had. There is no fat on this cat. He is solid. Let’s just say we don’t have a lot of problems with strays. No idea why he likes to stretch out on things that seem a little too small for him.

He was extremely territorial when it came to "his" yard. He disappeared one day at an advanced age, and I assume he finally got into a scrap he couldn't win, probably a coyote if I had to guess.

Yes, talk about territorial. We replaced our deck last year. Leo was in a state of complete disbelief what had happened to his deck. He would wander around the equipment every morning before the workers would show up. He even had a dead squirrel in his mouth one morning when he was checking out the work. But, once the frame was built, he was quick to reclaim his property.

I don't have any pets but I am a cat lover.
This was a surprising thread to see but I can't tell you how much I enjoyed scrolling through seeing everyone's furry pets. What a huge positive to lighten up my day.
