I've had a few quotes, they're all between £250 & £350 with an excess of between £3000 & £4000!!! From what I can make out most only cover damage to your own car and a couple don't cover damage to engine.

I was having this discussion with my girlfriends dad last night.

Do you need insurance?theoretically no, however should you crash into someone else's car, spin out and crash yours, injure someone else etc. You'd be fully liable to pay the cost. So yes. Insurance probably is needed.

It depends what waiver they make you sign when you turn up. My guess it will be the standard 'Motor racing is dangerous .... Ford accept no responsibility ...' stuff. The only damage you will be liable for is to your own car. If you hit someone else, I'm afraid that's their tough luck - they can't make you pay the damage. You could obviously offer to pay for it but your insurance probably wouldn't cover it, so if the third party(s) are uninsured then they would have to cover the costs.

Personally, I can't believe Ford are expecting folks to use their own cars. From my experience if you go on an invited day with any other manufacturer then they provide the cars.

In addition, I also note that some non-CL winners are getting invitations ..... SO WHERE'S MINE FORD?! ...... ah, I know. You're waiting until the GT350 is announced before you send me my invitation! ;)

On typical track days I would agree with you because the variety of cars plus the difference in driver talent puts the probability of an accident up big time. If however you have the same cars on track with an instructor in the passenger seat who is going to be another pair of eyes and also warn you if your driving is getting to the limits (normally by yourself you find the limits by having an off) then that probability comes down a lot.

See this is the trouble. Damage to your car could total a lot less than what you would have to pay out for in insurance BUT yes I know the tables could be turned and the total be a lot more than the insurance costs.....

Yeah I was also surprised that we would be using our own cars for the event and not the press release demo cars BUT then I guess they wanted to open it up to as many people as possible and not be limited to the number of demo cars they have.
It appears that UCL winners and very early deposit payers are getting the invitations.

The "no third party liability..." aspect is what would make sure my car wouldn't be going near the track. Been on corporate events using track cars before and there's always one guy who thinks he's Senna. Last day out I was on it was wet which added to the whole event until the guy totals his car and the event gets cancelled.

Absolutely. Plus, even if you are insured, it probably won't cover damage to the engine or gearbox/drivetrain. 40 mins of caning your car around a track could potentially do some serious damage. As a 'for example', the biggest issue is normally oil pick up. I'm not sure how the oil pick up in the sump is designed in the Coyote (I guess it's pretty well baffled, but you never know) but potentially long, fast corners can push the oil away from the pick up, thus momentarily starving the engine of oil.

Another reason I'm amazed folks are expected to use their own cars.

I would want to know that any insurance covers the liabilities related to killing or seriously injuring another person, including the instructor, or self. The car is a secondary consideration, but if you can't afford to replace it (and a lot of Armco) think twice.

I'm no insurance expert, but in my experience it doesn't. The insurance purely covers accident damage to your car (not sure about track days, but in the UK you don't have to cover any damage to circuit facilities should you damage the Armco, for example. I've damaged a few bits around the country and never been asked to pay! :D. Different at the Nurburgring I know). The waiver/disclaimer you sign for any track day/race means that the driving is done at your own risk - injure yourself or anyone else and, again, it's just tough luck. As the old phrase goes - 'It says it on the ticket - Motor Racing is Dangerous'.

Think I'm gonna back out, too much risk & my cars had enough bad luck already. I'm not paying £250 for insurance for 40 mins.
I heard yesterday that its Focus RS day as well, looks like dealers are heading down for that.

Don't let the bad luck put your off enjoying the car mate. Just take it easy around the circuit and don't do anything silly. If it's pissing down I won't be going out on track and that will be the only thing to put me off.
Even better as we can see the RS in action as well.

Well if your not going to go can I please ask for dibs on your invite buddy?

Though I do recommend you do go even if wet you will learn so much about the car and how it handles and get a lot of good tips from a professional. If it is raining I will say what the instructor will tell you, drive to your ability, go slower and let him worry about cars catching you up, that is why he is there.

Treat the controls and inputs as if there are eggs under the pedals and the steering inputs as if you are driving on ice and you will be absolutely fine. Then if you want to un-balance the car do so on the slower tighter corners at sub 40mph where there is plenty of run off, so if the worse happens you will pretty much spin on the spot.

My recommendation is to go and enjoy, you will learn so much about car control with a decent instructor, even in 40 minutes, just be honest with them when they get in your car and tell them you want them to hold you back so that no risk is taken and no chance of an accident.

But if you still decide to pull out, give me your invite. :p

Weather looks ok

In just not sure if it's worth it, gonna need at least 3 tanks of fuel, 10 hour driving there & back, hideous insurance costs (which I can't afford), etc

It's as dangerous/fast as you want to make it, I think everyone is just trying to point out all of the potential ramifications. Do what you feel is safe and you'll be fine.

So that'll be with cars supplied by Ford? ..... or have some people taken delivery of the new RS now (sorry, not really been following the RS story with too much interest)?

Not sure on the RS front, I was in the dealers yesterday and heard them mention a couple of sales guys were heading down to Silverstone on 6th for an RS event.
