I live in Bedford and am keen to book a track day there with the best when it arrives shortly - are you booked in and if so, what type if track session?

So this was my first time on track with a RWD car and it was just awesome!! My instructor Ross was very good with instructions and explaining what I should do differently with a RWD car. He had been racing for 22yrs since he was 11 so I knew I was in safe hands. I was on the last session (Orange lanyard) and the track was nice and dry for the first 4-5 laps and just as I was about to put it in Track mode (forgot to select this when I set off) the heavens opened so the track mode was left alone. Got to learn how the car responded in the wet and the always changing conditions, to the point where I was on a Jenson Button lap (wet line) for most of my session, especially through stowe, vale and club corner. I can't wait to book another track day after I have done my Palmer Sport Day because I know I will learn so much from that to then transfer to my own track day at Bedford Autodrome.
So here is some pics from the day, thanks to my wife for putting up with the rain and staying out the whole time to get these. Also a very quick video of a couple of pit straight fly bys (negative maverick the paddock is full).

On another note I am in the states at the moment and bet my kids $5 every time they see a CO Mustang before me - it has cost me a fortune and the Pony's are everywhere!!! Outselling all the competition massively from what I can see...

I haven't booked on yet because I am waiting to do my John Palmer Sport day next month to get a feel for the track and good knowledge for when I take the Mustang. The format I am looking at is the Open Pit Lane on the GT circuit for the full day. I have done a few of these in the past with my old Clio 172 and the format works really well compared with sessions.

Was great to meet you buddy, looking forward for when the Ford commercial goes on TV and were both on it. ;)

I don't suppose you have any earlier flyby's of my car as unfortunately I was in 5th gear on that doing my cooling laps as I came in the next lap. :)

Stark and Steve instructors said theirs was faster, due to them being orange. :first:

My car really made the others look so much slower, obviously not just down to car but having track experience helps a lot, but it is always good bragging rights to never be over taken and literally be flying past everyone else.

But there you have it, an ARDS race/instructor who has driven a few standard Mustang GT PP's then drives mine and says its faster, flatter, more grip, handles better, more forgiving and most of all is so much fun.

I was impressed with all your cars, I was talking to the press at the Focus RS launch at Stowe, and all I could hear were you all thundering around the track, no one was holding back!

Thinking about an open session at the Ford Heritage Garage (which is not open to the public) if its of interest??

and with a Q&A this time!!
Another 1 definitely up for this.

No No No I was the fastest by far .. And I'm going to stamp my feet and hold my breath until you all agree! Lol

PS and my instructor told me that I was the best looking driver he had seen all day!!!
And that I had the biggest exhaust pipe!

LOL: You felt like you were going fast as your instructor was passing a bunch of other instructors doing sedentary sighting laps at the beginning of the last session. I know , as I was in one of them ... :)

Sorry to burst your bubble , but a middle grid qualifying lap time (30 cars ..so heavy traffic) on this circuit is ~1.23 for the MR2 series , 180BHP , 1100kg race car .

The mustang is a great car, but needs to shed ~500kg to be really exciting ....on the track at least.

Have fun
Matt

You did not get the joke about magnetic being the quickest. ;)

But hey if race cars are doing 1:23, I am rather impressed an instructor who was not particular pushing my big heavy road car on road tyres with lots of traffic did a 1:27, makes you wonder what he would achieve if he pushed the car to limits and on a better tyre.

So yep it is indeed a great car and I thought it was exciting and great fun as it was in road trim. It really was, OK its not like driving a single seater or caterham on track for fun but for a big heavy road car I was surprised how well it did. :)

It was a big mistake but all good fun and the Mrs hadn't seen one in the flesh and loved it!

I think they do part instructed days as well as track days there - definitely keen to do something in the car ASAP as want to feel comfortable with what it can do and what I can do in it!
