Hi all,

I was reading a thread from last year which was similar, but i don't think it was exactly what mine is doing. I have a new 2019 build GT RHD spec with the 10R80. In normal driving conditions in D, while upshifting OR downshifting during normal acceleration/deceleration, when it goes from 3rd to 5th, it will shunt and sometimes thump a bit at the rear. Downshifting automatically from higher gears to 5th will make the car lurch under braking noticeably. I always know when i'm in 5th. If the car is already in 4th and it changes to 5th, it's nowhere near as bad. Manual shifts seem ok-ish. It's smoother with harder acceleration, worse when slow. I had a 2018 GT and its 3rd gear was a little rough but not as bad as this 5th situation. in my 19, 7th/8th can be rough too. Hard to test it out properly in all modes at this stage as it only has 400KM on it. Anyone else experienced this issue? It's not TERRIBLE, but its certainly not what it should be. All other gears are smooth. Wondering it it's one/two of the many clutches grabbing prematurely, but hard to tell. While driving up inclines, or around corners, the harshness is reduced or eliminated. That makes me think driveshaft linkage-angle errors, possibly dif mounting. It's a tricky one.

Anyone else?

Maybe wait a bit and see if it improves. These seem to take a while to learn your driving habits. Mine had a few rough shifts when it was new. After about 2k everything was as smooth as silk. Now almost 7k on the odometer and everything is excellent.

It also flared a couple of times (cold and warm) around the 4th/5th change. Maybe it's a faulty solenoid.

Unplug battery and relearn. See what happens then. Drive it like you mean it, or at least reasonably agressive. You won’t hurt it, and I’m sure you would know if you’re really beating on it.

I have an issue where the RPM stutters every time the car makes it to 5th gear. The RPM will dip 300-400, go back up, dip again and then continue normally. It’s not a thump or anything, but definitely something weird going on. It’s just interesting because when it goes from 4th to 5th it’s not nearly as noticeable as when it goes from 3rd to 5th.

Yeh it's that skipping between 3rd to 5th that really accentuates mine too. 1300KM on it now, and it's as bad as ever.

I think I know what you mean with the dipping revs too, mine does that a bit occasionally at the same shift point.

My 2018 GT has been doing this for a while now (10K or more miles). Its almost as if when shifting in D from 3-5, the converter slips until everything is all up to speed and then its smooth acceleration. If in manual shifting mode, when I shift from 4-5, its a really hard shift where the car bucks and its very unsettling. I have no idea whats wrong with the car.

My car does something very similar. If I paddle shift it it is smooth as butter. I normally drive in sport plus.

I can drive it hard for awhile and it learns not to do it. I only start to notice it after a long drive or after stop and go traffic.

I would think there is some better software for this transmission by now. Feels like a programming problem to me. I don’t think it is mechanical.

In Sport mode using manual shifting it's certainly not smooth in my car, it's a quick shift as you'd expect, but harsher than what my '18 was. However the other day i took off from the lights in S mode, auto-shifting, and it shifted into second so hard at higher revs that it made my wife lock her phone accidentally. It's a bucket of balls, this particular trans. I also have a steering issue in mine, creaking noises when turning, particularly low speed right turns. Also heard if i get out of the car and get someone to dry-lock it, but that's digressing from the thread.

Have not noticed any issues with my 2019 A10. Have you tried a KAM reset and let the trans relearn? I know if I ever run into trans issues that will be the first thing I try.

Thats just a unplug of the battery for 20-30 mins, right?

They say 30 minutes then the following.

It normally takes about 50 to 100 miles for the PCM's adaptive strategy to relearn. When you 1st start the car after resetting the KAM you should let it idle a couple minutes with everything turned of in park/neutral. Then turn the a/c on for a few mins, and after that put the vehicle in gear for a few mins if you've got an auto trans. When your done relearning the idle strategy, drive the vehicle like you normally would. I do not recommend driving it in a manner out of the ordinary at this time.

I did a battery d/c last night, good thing i did as the positive terminal cover was crushed on an awkward angle, and the retaining nut was about 80% undone. The positive clamp was sitting on the terminal on an angle, and just fell straight off in my hands. What a ******* joke! I held the brake down, turned the lights on etc to drain it. Anyway i doubt it did a lot, as the ambient lights/radio memory remained, however the shift to 5th does seem a little smoother, still bogus though.

lol delivery is a joke - particularly when the car was already on order from the dealer anyway. It was delivered with a sliced open rubber seal between the bonnet and front bar, and a scratch i only found later on and cannot prove. The car's great, but i don't think anyone buys a Mustang for build quality purposes.
