Installed original model MGW a few months ago. The shifts were sure and solid but it has taken 500 miles for it to start feeling smooth. And the pressure to push down for reverse is pretty heavy. I like it for the accurate and short shifts but wish it was a little smoother. Maybe it will get there in another 500 miles. Might take a while since car is not a DD. I have no experience with the other aftermarket shifters.

MustangGuy you have outlined my concerns too. Mine isn't a DD, but I do run errands with it and use reverse a lot. I don't want to hassle with a heavy push down, but everyone seems to describe it as heavy. Otherwise it seems like everyone likes the MGW. I wish I could be confident that the push down force would lighten up over time.

another reason for removing the pull up reverse is once you get these more direct mounted shifters or shifter strengthening mods that plastic collar likes to rattle

I just had a Barton Hybrid installed and love it. I can't speak for the others, but I really like the choice I made. I also installed their driveshaft loop with it.
I got the Hybrid 3 for Christmas and was wondering what was the cost to have it installed? Did you go tranny mount? If yes, how's the vibration?

Thanks for the info.

I don't know the exact install amount because I had a lot of other work done. I know they said it is usually around $150-190.

I didn't go with the tranny mount, I went with the body mount. Vibration is maybe slightly more than stock and if so it is welcome because the shifter is so much more solid and precise!

The MGW, Barton, and Steeda are all very good shifters. You can't go wrong with any of your choices. I love my Steeda as it's not as aggressive as the MGW, and is still very precise. Everyone knocks the reuse of stock parts, but I haven't had a single issue with mine and I've rowed through the gears many a time at all of the RPMs. But MGW seems to have the most amount of users with all positive reviews. Good luck, and enjoy a more precise shifting experience either way!

Jim, the down pressure for reverse isn't unbearable. Just more pressure than I expected it to have. I called MGW about the stiffness. They said that since their shifter is manufactured to such precise clearances like the gun components they also make, that it takes a bit to break them in. I don't regret going MGW. Paid $220 for an ASE mechanic to install.

It seems to me that the push-down spring would be easy to replace with a less stiff one without compromising the operation of the shifter.

I've watched Youtube videos where guys don't give shifters a chance to break in before replacing them and then make a video outlining their perceived shortcomings. That's pretty unfair. I would think they all need a break-in period.

This is correct. Anything that involves a spring that has direct input to your hand, will indeed need to be broken in. My Steeda was incredibly stiff when I first installed it, but after normal driving operations they softened up and the experience has been excellent. I would imagine this is the exact same with the downward reverse mechanism.

Exactly!!!

anyone that has given the RACE SPEC at least 500-1000 miles to break in nicely has loved it!!!
