I've had metal shift knobs in previous cars and never had issues with the knob getting too hot in the summer time.

As Mrzero said...mostly looks...but also having the new collar will eliminate the possibility of the stock piece breaking, which could prevent you from using reverse.

BTW...the titanium knob looks very nice

Probably so this doesn't happen, my lockout on my '16 literally snapped in half. Did a metal replacement on that car, will get around to it on my '19 as well. Cosmetic reasons not remotely why...
