You're driving a Ford, not a Ferrari

While I have a daily driver, I don't treat my car like it's a fucking Enzo.
This ^^^. Its just another Ford. There are millions of them. Cars are meant to be driven not framing them in the living room. :D

Just enjoy your car. They are made to be enjoyed, driven, not just to be garage queens.

If you're fine with spending ~$15-20/day to have a car that you can't drive all of the time, go for it.

I got started with the beater thing back when I lived up north - it was liberating to drive a car in the winter I didn't really care about. So it got crusted with salt or some clown slid into it - who cares ;)

Now, I keep my old '03 G35 around for the dirty jobs (schlepping dogs to events, rescue, the Vet), going to places on bad/dirt roads, Wal-mart runs (where tards are likely to screw with your ride) etc. etc.

It's a reliable car that's been well maintained & repair costs have been low. Insurance dropped as well due to it's age & replacement value.

Costs me about $1500/year to keep it around - worth the peace of mind IMO + having the convenience of 4 doors when needed.

Oh, and get a dash cam with parking mode (Front and back/2 way). They come in handy when catching scumbags. Worth the investment.

Thanks! I used to live in Schaumburg, IL before I moved to TX 2 years ago. For Chicago, a beater for the winter is no brainer :)

I grew up in Schaumburg. Graduated from Schaumburg HS in '99

I say definitely get a beater. Even without the winters, I wouldn't want to trash my "toy" car from dd duties.

Mine is already tucked away for winter

My everyday cars are my '13 F150 and my work van, which is a 15 Transit with the Eco

the best "Mod" I've done on my Mustang is the purchase of a 2004 Honda Civic LX. the Civic takes the "hard" miles and the Mustang takes the "fun" miles. Couldn't be happier and only costs me ~$40 a month in insurance.

My Mustang is simply not fun to drive down I5 for 7 miles bumper to bumper for 1.5 hours each way while its duping rain down while wearing out my knee on the clutch. The Civic is great for this. The Stang still comes out when its sunny and the commute is cleaner (say 30 minutes)

The Mustang goes out on sunny days on wide open road or tracks.

To the trolls who always hate hearing this stuff... in 5 years when you're Stang has 70K miles on it of which 90% was your crappy commute in bumper to bumper traffic, mine should have around 20K of nothing but pure fun time looking brand new off the lot.

Oh Hell Yah! I second that opinion. Do an Autotrader search for cars less then 50K miles and under $5000. You will be surprised what you find, though you may need to drive a little to look at it. I've always had "beaters" and my "baby". I drive the beater untill 100K and can usually sell it for about what I paid, and my "Babies" always trade/sell well above KBB/NADA.

Its the best way to economically break even in an otherwise bad investment (it IS a Ford, after all)

I drove a 88 Honda Civic DX hatch when I had my S2000's. I bought that thing for $3000 and drove it for 3 years, $30K miles and then sold it for $3500.

Yeah I hate driving/parking with those who view a car as a disposable appliance.

I also hate racking up tons of miles.

This is why we have three vehicles and I'm aiming for 4. Actually I am also looking at golden era civics, hatchbacks to be specific, it's just hard to find one that hasn't been completely molested to the point of no return because racecar.
I have six vehicles. Seven if you count the project bike.

I like having options. Or maybe I have a problem. Either way, eh.
