I am wondering if the wiring is already there for the subwoofer in the trunk. Can I get the subwoofer and just plug it in basically.... Could be an interesting investigation when I get time...pull the panel off in the trunk and see if the connector is there but unconnected.
I would be very interested in more information on this as I am planning on having a sub and amp install the day I take delivery but being a new car, most installers are familiar with the new configuration besides a hard wire to the battery

Granted I will consider myself somewhat of an audiophile, although I'm usually too cheap to buy a system that really wows me. That said, the "premium" shaker radio honestly has the MOST terrible sounding factory speakers in any vehicle I have owned to date. I do a fair bit of audio engineering for music and short films, so yes I know how to run an equalizer; no setting sounds good. I've tried Sirius (which is the worst sound), FM Stereo (not really any better), and high bitrate MP3. I haven't slapped an audio CD in as I went digital quite some time ago and CD's are cumbersome for transport. I've tweaked the EQ, faders and pretty much anything I could find. Flat sounds like a 1940's radio. Pushing the highs makes it sound more tinny the more you raise it. Pushing mids makes them sound muddier. Pushing bass is quite muddy too, but I will say it has a decent punch for 6.5" speakers. Basically these speakers remind me of an old pair of Walmart no-name earbuds I used to use for 10 bucks, because I was cheap. They had decent bass, but muddy everywhere else and tinny highs. I expect better sound, like my Sennheiser earbuds I now use...it really brings to life each instrument and changes the sound completely.

/end rant - I am replacing speakers as soon as I can choose the speakers I find most approriate, hopefully sooner than later. So many places locally have non-working sound boards so it is hard to find somewhere to actually sample speakers.

I will probably grow the system into a proper staged system with a multiband EQ, electronic LOC, 5 channel amp and a subwoofer, but I will piecemeal it with clear sounding bang for buck speakers to start, various reasons.

A pillar - 2 tweeters
Doors - 2 mid-high speakers and 2 midbass 6.5"
Center - 1 speaker
Rear deck - 2 woofers and 2 tweeters
Sub - 1 subwoofer.

According to Ford 2+2+2+1+2+2+1 = 12. That sounds fine in my books, except for the fact technically the rear deck speakers are really just a coaxial speaker. In what world is the woofer and tweeter considered separate on a coaxial speaker? In Ford's world lol, it's the new math.

If that's how it works, guys who put in 4-way speakers actually just installed 8 speakers, not 2. :headbonk:

Thanks...I didn't think they would be that low to count it like that. Still not happy with the sound for a upgraded system. Besides this and my kids not having ANY room in the back seats I have zero complaints!

I had the opportunity to test out both the 400A and 401A stereo. I found the 400A to be just terrible (as I still do since I have it), but the 401A was only slightly more crisp. The 401A option package in Canada was $2000 and I didn't need BLIS or the memory seats since I'm the only driver, so I figured $2000 would go a lot further for an aftermarket stereo.

And you adjusted the fader/balance/bass/treble...etc? I have the same system, it shakes/vibrates the side mirrors and rear view mirror. It's got a decent thump, with the windows down though it's a different story.
Yup, did all that. Bass all the way up. Mid up between half and full. Still has no punch or definition.

I am not looking to rattle the windows, just some bass. I can live with the sound from the front, but the rear is just so weak when it comes to volume and bass response. I have a pair JBL 6.5 inches with a sensitivity rating of 93.5 db for the back deck. Hopefully they will help. All I need is a little time to put them in

My literature says that I have the 400A package. I do not have a subwoofer. However the area under my radio between the cig lighter and USB says "Shaker". Does yours also say Shaker?

Anyone with the 400A please feel free to chime in.

Thanks guys.

Both the Shaker and Shaker Pro have the word "Shaker" down in that area as they are both a variant of the Shaker system. I am not 100% certain, but I believe the only difference is the tweeters added to the rear speakers, the subwoofer and an extra amp to power the sub on Shaker Pro. I believe the Shaker and Shaker pro use the same amp off the head unit by the sounds of it.

My wife and I are music lovers. (All genres) we have the 15 GT Premium with the Pro system. We switched to Driver and use +1 on base and +2 on Midrange and Treble. We normally run the volume about 50% and find the system to be fine. We always use a flash drive or CD because we down load our own music. EVERYONE HAS A DIFFERENT EAR FOR MUSIC. Some people like music loud some soft. Remember your Sub Woofer is in the trunk.
We have a 2011 f150 Lariat with the Sony System and a Sub Woofer under the back seat that's open to the truck interior. This sound system is incredible.
That being said we are very happy with our 2015 GT premium, 50AP, 6 speed Manual,401A in all ways. For the people who need more volume an Upgraded amp might be the answer but with windows down and outside noise coming in, it's hard to get quality sound and volume.

What do you guys think about the Shaker premium audio system in the Eco-boost? How is the sound quality??
It sounds completely "flat". Waste of money and not "pro" at all. I have also the EcoBoost with the shaker pro and don't know if it sounds that terrible because of the fake engine noise FORD is playing into the cabin. I had now a Focus loaner for 2 weeks and drive now a Fusion loaner and both have the standard radio but the sound is much more "full" than the Shaker Pro system IMO. Our Jeep Grand Cherokee has a much better 7 speaker system than my Mustang. Noise cancellation is also something I thing of keeping the subwoofer doing his part. At the beginning I thought it isn't working at all. But letting the radio on and open the trunk lid showed me that the subwoofer is doing fine. But I can't drive around without a trunk lid.....

I have the "Shaker Pro" as well in my GT. I'm with the majority of the people that were rather underwhelmed with the output. I would have liked to compare it to the 9 speaker variant as the upgraded audio was the main reason for the 401a package I got. At this point, they're good enough to where I'm not messing with swapping audio stuff out but don't find really anything "Pro" about the setup.

I am wondering do you have the voice activated navigation? I wouldn't think that would make a difference in the "Shaker Pro" system as far as volume. Maybe my wife and I like music at less volume than most people. In my mind more volume means more distortion unless you have more power to run the system. Maybe a bigger amp would solve that. Nobody seems to know how much power the amp has. I would think to run 12 speakers you would need a size able amp.

I have the Shaker system. Not sure which option but it has the woofer. Sounds great, thank goodness I'm not an audiophile!
